From the Counselors
The Credit By Exam Application for Summer is open! If you are interested in your child advancing in a course or earning credit without having to take a class, please visit this website to see what courses are offered, to get the Testing Window Dates and the location of the test: Katy ISD Credit By Exam Information.
All exams for students in grades 3-12 will be proctored at home this summer. There will be an additional form sent to you after you have sent in your application. Be on the lookout for this form in your e-mail.
Just as an FYI: taking a High School CBE could affect your child's GPA. In order to get credit for the Credit by Exam, they will have to score an 80 or higher. However, if they score between an 89-80, they will earn a GPA score of a 3 on their transcript and there is no way to opt out of it going on their transcript.
If this is something you are interested in, please fill out this form so that we can get the application to you: Beck JH Credit By Exam Request
Testing Windows are as followed:
June 7-10, 2021
July 13-17, 2021
The Application for the June testing dates are due by April 16, 2021.
The Application for July testing dates are due by May 7, 2021.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Jernberg at RebekahNJernberg@katyisd.org

COVID 19
From Dr. Gregorski
Following the Governor’s Executive Order on March 2, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) provided public school districts with updated COVID-19 safety guidance that requires continued compliance with current health and hygiene practices outlined by the agency. These practices include the wearing of facial coverings while on school property, social distancing when possible, frequent hand washing and the use of hand sanitizer.
At this time, I have recommended that the Katy ISD Smart Restart safety protocols remain in effect across Katy ISD facilities through the end of the school year. This decision was made based on the TEA guidance, consultation with local health officials, and the following considerations:
- Number of active COVID-19 positive cases across the District and in our surrounding communities,
- Teacher and staffs’ stated vulnerability and desire for continued protection against the virus, and
- The UIL, the governing body of school fine arts and athletic activities, requirement for districts to maintain a plan to mitigate the risk of COVID-19 during practices and events.
As our Emergency Management team and local health officials continue to review guidance and work together to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, the District’s Phase 2 Safety Protocols that were implemented on March 1 will remain in effect. Phase 2 protocols include the practices set forth by TEA, as well as incorporates volunteers returning to campuses, and resumes large events/activities and outside usage of Katy ISD facilities. An overview of Phase 2 protocols can be found in Katy ISD’s Mitigation Plan here.
Student COVID-19 Testing Appointment Scheduler
To help expedite free student COVID-19 testing, while practicing social distancing at the testing site, Katy ISD has established a Student COVID-19 Testing Sign-Up Form that allows families to secure an appointment time for their student(s). A direct link can be found on the Katy ISD website.
The free rapid COVID-19 test is in collaboration with the Texas Education Agency (TEA) COVID-19 Testing Project and consists of:
- A nasal-based testing option (saliva-based option is still pending)
- Results in 20 minutes
The free student COVID-19 rapid test is available at the District’s Agricultural Sciences Center located at 5801 Katy Hockley Cut-Off Road, Monday-Friday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturdays 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Katy ISD COVID Mitigation Plan
- If a student that was sent home from school because they were deemed to have been in close contact and then is able to attain a negative result from an acute infection test at an approved testing location – they will at minimum need to wait until the start of the following school day before returning to school.
- If any individual is living in the same household with an individual who tested positive for COVID-19, they must:
- Notify campus nurse AND
- Self-isolate for 14 days
- The individual may return to school / work if;
- They receive an acute infection test at an approved testing location that comes back negative for COVID-19 with a medical professional’s release clearing the individual to return to school /work
- Recommended statement from medical professional allowing student to return to school, “Household mitigation has been assessed, individual is cleared to return to school/work.”
- OR
- Self-isolate for 14 days after exposure with no further symptoms
Deliveries
In Phase Two, there are no student deliveries during the school day. The school will not be able to accept any items (including but not limited to lunches, water bottles, notebooks, backpacks, technology, instruments, athletic gear, etc).
Checking out a student?
You MUST have your phone and valid ID to check out a student. There is not a paper sign out due to COVID protocols. If you are sending someone other than a guardian to pick a student up, you must email the attendance clerk prior to the pickup with individual name and a picture of their Driver's license, time, and date of pickup.
