BIKE SAFETY
BY: Bryan Cruz
FACTS
There are many reasons to ride your bike: Have fun, play with your friends, enter competitions, and exercise. Also, its good for the environment because less cars are being used so, less pollution in the air. Children ages 5 to 14 are seen in emergency rooms for injuries related to biking than in any other sport. 45 percent of children 14 and under usually wear a bike helmet. Bikers should always ride on the right side, with traffic. Riding against traffic confuses or surprises drivers. Most people don't realize that hundreds of thousands of children are seriously injured each year in bicycle falls. More than 600 children die from them each year.
TIPS
- wear helmet
- ride on the right side, with traffic
- respect traffic signals

- children have to be supervised until parents are comfortable that they're responsible enough to ride on their own
