HFRCS Newsletter SY 2022-2023

February 28, 2023 - Vol.2 Issue 26

From the Principal's Office

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we begin this first full week of Lent, our school is focusing on our Lenten practices of prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Throughout our hallways, the footsteps of Jesus are seen and we are walking his path and following his example. Tomorrow, we will begin praying the Stations of the Cross. This Lenten tradition will be prayed each Wednesday during the season of Lent. Our hope is that this sacred season brings us closer to our Lord.

This Friday, March 3, we will be celebrating the First Friday of March with Mass at 9:30 AM. Please join us if your schedule permits.

Monday, March 6 we will begin our Terra Nova testing. Testing will take place in the morning, for four consecutive mornings, Monday through Thursday for grades 2-7. To assist your child in having a positive experience with these standardized tests, please ensure that they get a good night’s rest, eat a healthy and nutritious breakfast, and have sharpened pencils ready. Standardized tests show a snapshot of a child’s ability and cannot be prepared for in advance. Encourage your child to do their very best, take their time, and check their completed work.

The end of the trimester is fast approaching, ending on Friday March 10. Report cards will be distributed on Friday, March 17.

Finally, we would like to congratulate our Holy Family Maroon CYO 5th/6th grade girls basketball team for winning the Region 19 JV Parish Championship! Our Holy Family girls participating on this team are: Laila Nguyen, Dani Keehner-Steckley, Hannah Cumplido-Delgardio (also selected as MVP!), Gia Luna, Ella Torres, and Amalia Oleaga. Thank you also to Coaches Nico Oleaga and Lisa Keehner. Congratulations girls! We are proud of you!

Sincerely Yours in Christ,

Mrs. Haggerty

Lenten One-Can Meal Drive

For our 2023 Lenten Service Project, HFRCS will be collecting one-can meals for our friends at Nutritional Development Services which they will then distribute to local food cupboards and soup kitchens. In order to make this a more meaningful experience, we ask that you have your children either pay for or, at the very least, shop for their donated items. This gives ownership of the good deed and creates a connection to those we are out to help.

Our SCHOOL GOAL is 400 cans! 2 cans per person will exceed our goal!

Many of the local food cupboards and soup kitchens have seen a swift increase in numbers of families with children who utilize their services. Please see attached document for examples of what we are collecting.

Thank you for your kindness and generosity to the many hungry people in our surrounding communities. As always, we appreciate all you and your family do to support your children, our school and Catholic education as well as those in our community.

Please send in donations by Friday, March 31.

Congratulations, Champs!

Congratulations to our CYO Region 19 JV Parish Girls Basketball Champions! Great job, girls!
