FL DOE Commissioner Pam Stewart & Chancellor Rod Duckworth setting the stage about the significance of Career & Adult Education Pathways
A Message from the Leadership Team
Adult Education
Last week Yolanda and I had the opportunity of spending two days in Tallahassee for the 2017 Career and Adult Education Pathways Symposium hosted by both ACE of Florida and FACTE. Florida DOE Commissioner Pam Stewart & Chancellor Rod Duckworth set the stage about the significance of Career and Adult Education Pathways by bring together over 250 participants comprised of district directors, program coordinators, college deans, experts from the Department of Labor, FLDOE staff, state officials and national speakers focusing on the importance of education pathways that lead to employment. This symposium highlighted the significance of WIOA by bringing together all stakeholders with a common goal of helping get Americans, including youth and those with significant barriers to employment, into high-quality jobs and careers and help employers hire and retain skilled workers.
As you work with your students in developing their language skills or academic skills try to envision some of the other barriers our students may have and let's help them bridge those gaps as Alejandro Anderson is doing with his students (see pictures below) as they explore employment and educational opportunities available to them.

ESOL Teacher Resources
General Reading Strategies:
1. When asking a question, allow enough "think time" for students to generate an answer.
2. When students are "following" along as you read out loud, randomly stop in different places requiring the studnets to chorally complete the sentence.
3. Before students read, select key words to discuss.
4. When reading an informational passage, use the 3-2-1 strategy to measure student engagement. Write 3 things they learned, 2 interesting things, and 1 question.
