Overview of 6th Grade Standards
In the 6th grade the students will be learning a lot of new concepts including:
- applying and extending previous understandings of multiplication and division to divide fractions by fractions
- applying and extending previous understanding of numbers to the system of rational numbers
- understanding ratio concepts and using ratio reasoning to solve problems
- applying and extending previous understandings of arithmetic to algebraic expressions
- reason about and solve one-variable equations and inequalities
- represent and analyze quantitative relationships between dependent and independent variables
Multiplying Fractions
Students will be learning how to multiply fractions, to multiply a fraction you multiply the numerators, multiply the denominators and then reduce the fraction if necessary.
Rational Numbers
Rational numbers are fractions and integers.
Ratios
Ratios are the quantitative relation between two amounts showing the number of times one value contains or is contained within the other.
