JAGUAR UPDATE
Sunset Valley Elementary 9/9/16
Jaguar Corner
We are having a great week! Thanks for all of your support! The lil' Jaguars are doing a great job of remembering to bring their charged Chromebook on a daily basis! LSR7 is definitely increasing opportunities for student learning on the Chromebook. These are some websites we are using frequently at SVE. Some terms you may hear at home:
Tenmarks: this is a math webpage.
Dreambox: this is a math webpage for younger students.
istation: this is an English Language Arts (ELA) webpage.
Thanks again for all of your help. Have a wonderful weekend!
R7 Standards Based Grading
How is the final grade determined?
The final score may be determined by a Final Demonstration of Learning. In addition, teachers will also review a preponderance of student evidence of learning over time to determine proficiency of a standard.Note from Mrs. Taylor!
Weekly BIST Tip: Calm tone
What do you mean “calm tone?” If I’ve asked my son/daughter/student to do something for the umpteenth time, I’m far from calm! Just remember, that a child can either deal with the adult’s strong emotion or deal with the problem behavior. They cannot do both! We know from experience, we are better listeners and problem solvers when we are calm. So if you find your tone is far from calm, it’s okay to take some time for yourself to relax before talking with the child. Stop, relax, think… and then problem solve. Together, we are the best role models for our kids!
Speaking of taking time...
At SVE, we utilize think sheets! Think sheets are teaching tools used to help students process. It is the teacher’s discretion as to whether a student needs to complete a think sheet while in the safe seat. With some students, it may be better to verbally process, rather than require the completion of a think sheet. Think sheets are not always sent home, as we utilize them as a problem-solving tool and move forward in our day. We teach students that "everyone makes mistakes"! At SVE, our teachers will communicate any other concerns through a quick email or phone call. Communication is key!
