LHS Weekly Update #5

August 28, 2020

First Full Week Complete!

As we wrap up the first full week of school we have many successes to celebrate. Students are connecting with their classes in so many positive ways. If you haven't already, you should start to see grades entered in Powerschool. With a quarter-based system it's very important for students to engage each day. The midquarter point is September 16th with the quarter ending on October 16th. Reminder that blended learning students will receive semester credit for their four quarter classes. In addition to the live time on Google Meets or Zoom, students should be spending around one hour per class per day (AP students may have additional work beyond that). This includes Wednesdays. Wednesdays are intended to work independently on assignments and to connect with teachers during office hours for support.

If you have specific questions about your classes, email your teachers directly.

If having connectivity issues or struggling with using Google Classroom, call the front office 456-7794, or email our librarian, Joy Boyce for assistance. joy.boyce@k12northstar.org

If you are in need of books, supplies, Chromebooks, or any other school items, there is no need to pre-schedule a time. Stop by the front office between 8am and 3pm any week day.

Finally, you can always refer to our Lathrop Website for information and tech troubleshooting tips and tricks.

Morning Meetings

Morning Meetings will include daily announcements and are a great way for students to connect with school. These meetings go live on YouTube each day at 9:15am. Starting next week we will be emailing out our bulletin to families each day (and will include the morning meeting link). Students will continue to receive a link to the morning meeting through their school email daily.

If you missed any, you can always find them on our website: Weekly Updates and Morning Meetings

Growth Mindset

There is no doubt about it. Learning remotely is hard. Each class/each day is not always going to go the way you want it to. That's to be expected. The important thing is that you keep trying, keep getting back up to do it again. Seek help. No one is expected to be a master at learning this way. We are all in this together.

If you are having a rough time, give yourself permission to do so. And then try again. All of us at Lathrop are rooting for you and here to support you. If you feel you aren't getting the support you need, reach out again - to your teacher, a counselor, an administrator, and/or any staff member at Lathrop.
