Principal's Message
Good afternoon Canby High School Students & Families,
It has been a great first week of the trimester. The energy of the fresh start is in the air, and students seem to be adjusting well to their new classes. The Ready to Learn initiative is off to a great start as well. I have heard from both students and teachers that not having the distraction of cell phones is already making a difference in classroom culture. Thank you for your partnership in making sure that all students come to school on time, prepared, and that cell phones stay away during class time.
This time of year affords many opportunities to highlight our talented students. Jazz Band competed at the league band festival today, and the Cantalinas are performing their holiday tour. Check out their performance at the Grotto: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmlAK5cwwnU. Our talented band and choir will be showcasing their musical skills at concerts next week.
Our amazing FFA students placed first place in rituals (opening and closing ceremonies at districts) and a number of officers won outstanding officer recognition. Please see below for more information. Culinary Students are showcasing their talents, too. The Cougar Cafe is now open at break in the new Commons, and winter athletes continue to shine on the court, on the mat, in the pool, in the ring, and even on the slopes.
We will complete a required lock down drill on Tuesday, 12/12. These drills are important chances to practice our safety protocols and procedures. We know that these drills can be triggering for some students; our counselors are available to meet with students as necessary.
It is important that students get off to a good start this trimester. Watch for syllabi coming home with important information. These first two weeks are key to setting up a student for success. Attendance and keeping up with work are essential. If you have any questions, please reach out. Our teachers, counselors, and administrators are here to help!
Have a wonderful week!
Best,
Cari Sloan

Winter Break Credit Recovery
CHS is offering a credit recovery option in person during winter break. Please see the flier above for more information or to register for this opportunity.
Winter Weather Prep
As the temperatures get colder, it’s time to start preparing for winter weather! If the weather is severe enough to cancel school, the first day of inclement weather will be a snow day for all! Any inclement weather day thereafter will be an online learning day. Elementary school families, this means you may see iPads come home with your students if questionable weather is forecasted.
In the event of an online learning day, Canby High School will begin at 8:40 a.m. and all other schools will begin at 9:30 a.m. Students should watch for Zoom links from their teachers. If students have trouble connecting or need help, they should reach out to their teacher. Canby School District strives to make the most of this valuable educational time, but please know that students will not be penalized if they are unable to connect.
To make sure you’re set to receive information about school delays, or closures, and online learning days, please subscribe to Canby School District on FlashAlert. Now is also a good time to update your text preferences online by listing your phone number.
For more information, please see our inclement weather page.

In addition, Austin, Izzi, Dean, and Zach were named outstanding officers.
CHS Giving Tree
Each year, we put up the Giving Tree in the Main Office as a way of collecting gifts for kids in our community that could use a little extra holiday cheer. We partner with the Canby Kiwanis, and they give us a list of items that they need help purchasing for holiday gifts.
Donations will be accepted every day until the end of school on December 14th, so be sure to get all donations in before then!
All toys are accepted, but if you need ideas of what to buy, simply take an ornament off the tree and buy that gift, bringing back the ornament when you drop off the gift.
If you would like to help purchase some gifts this year, here's how the Giving Tree works
Go the Main Office
Take a paper ornament off the tree
Purchase that item (new)
Wrap that item
Return the wrapped item, with the paper ornament taped to the outside.
Feel warm and fuzzy inside knowing you did some good!
