March 2020
Note from the Principal
Welcome to March. As if the year hasn't already flown by, the final 9 weeks are quickly approaching. Overall, it has been a mild winter and for that we are thankful. We are still battling a variety of illnesses. Please remember to bring in any doctor's notes.
Don't blink, March only has 14 school days due to Spring Break. There are several events happening in March. Check out the Upcoming Events section. Let's talk specifically about Muffins with Mohawks. This event has previously been known as Muffins with Moms. This is also our Spring Scholastic Buy 1 Get 1 Free Bookfair. We are once again asking for visitors to RSVP. Please call the office if you have not seen the RSVP form.
Also happening in March is our Annual SCUFFY fund drive. SCUFFY is a local organization that financially helps support our community. These local agencies are being helped: Boys and Girls Club, Girls Inc., Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Project Clothes for Kids, Cancer Association fo Shelby County, Head Start, Meals on Wheels, The Salvation Army, Shelby Senior Services, USO of Indiana, and Turning Point. Each year Waldron Elementary students help raise funds to help improve our community. The week of March 9-13 we will be having a Jar Wars to raise money for SCUFFY. Our goal this year is $1000.
We are also accepting registration for the 2020/2021 Little Mohawks Preschool. Please share this information with your friends and family members that have 3 and 4-year-olds.
It's not too late to register for Kindergarten. Contact the office if you have any questions or need a registration packet.
I want to give a BIG Shout-Out to our PTO. They have been working so hard this year! Make sure you mark your calendar for our Spring Fling on April 4th. You don't want to miss the fun. They have conducted a few very successful fundraisers. All the money raised goes to support the students and staff. We've identified some needs on our playground equipment so the money raised is also going to help meet those needs. Once we have the finalized plans in place, I'll share with you. Great things are happening!!
Finally, as we close out March and prepare for April, it also means we are preparing for IREAD-3 and ILEARN. I've attached information about both state assessments. Take a few minutes to review. Reach out to your child's teacher or call me if you have any questions. We'll be sharing more as the window gets closer.
Thanks for sharing your precious children with us. Please feel free to call or stop by if there is anything we can do for you or your student.
Take care,
Mrs. Speidel
