From the Principal's Desk...
Hello Lange Family,
This school year is passing at a swift pace. We are working with our students to help them settle into structured learning again after missing much of the in-seat learning over the past two years. We have had some exciting events for students so far this year. Our school spirit has been great during the fall sports. Our football team had an undefeated season, our volleyball and cross county teams had good seasons with a lot of progress shown by our student athletes. All our fall sports teams had great support from our students, staff and families along the way, and we are looking forward to that same excitement and support as we transition into the basketball season.
Students who are not part of our athletic program have started attended the various clubs we are offering. We have seen great attendance and students appear to be very excited about the club they have chosen to attend. Although we are constantly providing ways for our students to have fun, we also want to stress the importance of maintaining a high level of academic achievement. We continue to stress to our students the need to focus on being a safe, respectful, and responsible student. Our teachers are collaborating each week to determine how to best implement the most effective teaching and learning strategies that include writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading (also known as WICOR strategies).
As part of our normal procedures, we are engaging in Community Circles to provide students with a way to build a positive learning community in their classes. During this activity, teachers facilitate a conversation on relevant topics and allow students an opportunity to express how they feel about those topics. This has proven to be a great way to give students a voice in shaping the outcome of their school experience. We also continue to use Kickboard as an incentive for students to earn positive recognition (and Kickboard Kash) and a few treats along the way.
Finally, it is important to routinely monitor your student’s grade reports both weekly and when Interim Progress Reports (IPRs) are sent home. There will also be Parent Teacher Conferences on November 2nd and November 4th, 3:00-6:30PM. If you have not set up a conference, you may contact your child’s teacher or the main office. If you are unavailable to participate at the specific times allotted please don’t hesitate to arrange a different time. The primary goal is to make sure we develop a strong partnership to ensure the success of all students. I appreciate the great teachers, students and families at Lange Middle School. We are committed to creating success for EVERY STUDENT, EVERY DAY! Go Leopards!

LMS Theatre Arts and Speech & Debate
We have some exciting things to share about Theatre Arts and Speech & Debate at Lange:
1) 8th Grade recently performed some great memorized scenes and now are working on Tournament ready Prose and Poetry pieces. They have really loved playing with costumes and challenging each other to work on their skills.
2) 7th Grade recently performed some very difficult and deep memorized monologues. Now they are working on writing their own monologues called “MyStory” using dramatic guidelines such as Inciting Incident, Conflicts, and Climax.
3) 6th Grade has recently changed to the new quarter, but we had tons of fun playing theatre games, performing impromptu speeches, developing fairytale pantomimes, and then an entire unit on Improvisation.
4) The Smiley Lane Players (Theatre Club) continues to meet right after school every Thursday. For Halloween we had a costume contest with Lange’s Lit Club, we recently voted on our Artistic Council, and will be working on a Reader’s Theatre Performance scheduled November 18. Anyone can join, just show with your imagination!
5) Our 8th grade Speech and Debate class recently performed Demonstration Speeches and we are currently working on Tournament ready Expository (Informative) speeches, Declamation Speeches, and Lincoln Douglas style Debates. The have really taken to the “Resolution” part of the each class where we debate the merits of many of today’s most pressing matters.
If you ever have any questions about these classes, the Smiley Lane Players, or anything else related to the Theatre Arts and Speech & Debate at Lange, please do not hesitate to contact Dr. Edwards.

Students should have a personal pair of earbuds or headphones for daily use. Core classes utilize headphones on a consistent basis, and not all teachers are able to offer classroom headphones to scholars who do not have a personal set.
