Professional Development for NEW Iowa Science Standards
Update about NEW Iowa Science Standards
Did you know that Iowa has adopted new science standards?
Perhaps you wonder how the science standards are different from the Iowa Core?
Maybe you wonder about what standards are to be taught at each grade level?
All K-12 science teachers, coaches, curriculum directors, PLC leaders, administrators, community college staff and education partners are encouraged to attend the two session professional development experience that is designed to foster exploration and awareness and build a statewide capacity to support implementation of the new science standards.
This is a multi year roll out plan:
Year 1: 2015-2016 Exploration, Awareness, and Statewide Capacity Building
Year 2: 2016-2017 Classroom Transitions, Shifts, and Practices
Year 3: 2017-2018 Leveraging Materials, Resources and Expertise
Year 4: 2018-2019 Full K-12 Implementation
Several professional development opportunities will be held over the next three years to support the implementation of the new Iowa Science Standards in PLAEA and state-wide. Those include:
