Principal Thoughts

I would definitely classify myself as a casual soccer fan, but every four years I always enjoy watching the World Cup. This is arguably the best global sporting event, and this year's final was one of the most exciting matches I have ever seen. One story that really stuck out to me from the most recent World Cup, however, was about the Japanese fans who attended the event. They did something truly remarkable. After the game, win or lose, they would meticulously clean their section of the stadium as well as other sections. Seeing this made me think of one of the pillars of Gray Stone, service, which is integral to everything we try to do here. All of our seniors must complete a service project before they graduate, but service shouldn't just be a project that you have to complete. There are small ways to serve that can be done every day - something as simple as picking up your own trash so someone else doesn't have to, sitting with someone at lunch who doesn't have anyone to talk to, showing kindness toward someone who might be having a bad day, etc. The list could go on forever. I urge all the members of our community to take a page from the Japanese fans at the World Cup. Let's make our world a cleaner and better place through service to others.

Knight of the Week

This week's Knight of the Week is Bladen Goodman. One of Bladen's teachers wrote,

"Bladen is such a hard worker. He’s studious, proactive regarding his assignments, and so respectful. He always has a friendly smile. He is all around a great student!"

We are proud of you, Bladen!

Historical Society Program

Gray Stone Families,

Dr. Eric Johnsen will be doing a program on Hwy 52 (from beginning to end) 2,072 miles. Since many of your students are familiar with Hwy 52 in Stanly and nearby counties, they might be interested to learn more about the history and geography of this Maverick highway. Dr. Johnsen will include a PowerPoint component with this presentation to highlight some of the unusual places along the route.

Dr. Johnsen’s program will be held in the Fellowship Center at Central United Methodist Church on Monday, January 30, at 7 o’clock.

We would love for some Gray Stone students and staff to attend. We are not requesting registration for this program.
