We began a 4 week unit of fossils and dinosaurs. We call it Digging Up Dinosaurs. We created a timeline of events millions of years ago. The students watched a National Geographic Video called Dinosaur Hunters and took notes. We worked on note

taking skills. We are planning a field trip to Gainesville where we will tour the Florida Museum of Natural History and see many fossil finds in Florida.

Grade 2 Monday

Grade 3 Wednesday

We continued to work on our Spanish Galleon Unit. We recorded another Log Entry and moved our ships along. We studied wind patterns and learned about the doldrums, trade winds, horse latitudes. Many ships are close to their destination at this time.

We began our Medieval Times Unit this week. We will work on this for approx. 6 weeks with the culmination being the trip to Medieval times in Orlando. This is one of the highlights of grade 4 gifted every year. Each student will have 1 hour each Thursday to work on his/her portfolio. They are trying to complete activities to earn 250 points. Each student that does this will earn a "Noble Prize Pouch" to carry with them on the field trip. The pouch will contain Medieval goodies!

Grade 5 Tuesday

PLEAS SEND IN MONEY FOR FEDERAL RESERVE FIELD TRIP. Money due on Jan. 13. No exceptions due to the fact Federal Reserve requires ALLL attendees names on that date.


We began our Making Ends Meet Unit. We explored the Federal Reserve System and took part in a simulation of the banking system. Students deposited money into a bank and some of them became loan officers as well. We learned about interest, assets, reserves, and borrowing. Next week the will get a fictitious family and begin a "job" to support that family.
