Reciepe for success...
Math - Top Chefs began coins this week. The poems we are reciting help us remember facts about each coin. "Penny, penny easily spent copper, brown, and worth one cent". Top Chefs watched a Brain Pop Jr. all about coins, and we also listened to a Weekly Reader book called "Learning About Coins". Students also continue to work on addition and subtraction strategies and ST math.
Literacy - Students continued with reading groups and sight word cards. Small groups continued to work on sight word sentences and we are really focusing on writing our letters. What do tall letters look like? (they touch the sky line- Blue). What about small letters? (they touch the sun -Yellow) What about hanging letters? (they hang below the grass line-green line). Top Chefs are getting ready for first grade. Students enjoyed a "Let's Find Out" magazine today about fiction and non fiction books. We read 2 stories today...Duck For President and I Like Pasta. Students then voted for their favorite. Ask you Top Chef how they voted today and why :).
Content - Top Chefs had fun learning about Presidents Day and continuing with Random Acts of Kindness activities. Spreading smiles, waves , and kind words throughout Crozet Elementary and our Community :) .
** Top Chefs enjoyed listening to the story Polar Bear, Polar Bear What Do You Hear? By Eric Carl. Students looked at the pictures on the overhead projector while hearing the book being read to them on CD. The students were so excited to hear the story a second time being read in Spanish! Ask your child what their favorite part was.
