World Languages K-12
APRIL 2022
World Languages Highest Goal
Here in Pasco County, we want to help every student develop his/her skills in every language domain (Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing), starting as soon as they join one of our foreign language courses. We will accomplish this by design engaging lessons that will purposely target every receptive and productive skill.
World Languages Philosophy
The World Language Acquisition Philosophy at our district follows four immersion-related goals:
- to achieve proficiency in the target language (listening, speaking, reading, and writing),
to acquire comparable English Language Arts skills in our foreign language courses,
to reach cultural competency in surface features and deep features of cultural perspectives, practices, and products,
to gain mastery in our content areas.

Transforming foreign language classrooms to boost active learning
Course title: Transforming foreign language classrooms to boost active learning
Course: 4324 Section: 31210
Date and Time: April 19, 2022, 5:00 – 7:00 PM
Course description: Participants will learn various strategies and techniques on how to differentiate, based on communication modes, with the end goal of boosting active learning while increasing proficiency levels.
Objectives:
- Teachers will be able to adjust and/or modify core resources and practice activities provided by a publisher, to maximize student interactions with the content, and provide active learning opportunities that will help students move through the proficiency levels in meaningful, intentional, and relevant ways.
- Teachers will increase their understanding of supplemental materials, like authentic resources and current events, to support the core resources and student achievement gains.
Implementation activity:
Teachers will submit a copy of one of the activities that were modified from a core resource, to show differentiation between proficiency levels and/or students' individual needs (performance levels).
Other considerations:
Every student is at a different proficiency and performance level. Preparing activities that will enhance their language acquisition process includes the inclusion of scaffolds, differentiation, and other curricular modifications that will maximize their learning, being active learning is one of the instructional shifts that will foster student growth.
