Ridgewood Returns Spring 2021
Resources for our Return to In-person Instruction
Message From the Principal
March 28, 2021
After Spring Break we are in full preparation mode and will use the first three days of this week to train, set up our classrooms and adjust our schedules and lessons. On Monday, we will address safety protocols, on Tuesday we will talk about supports for students and Wednesday teachers will have time to connect with families and finalize their classrooms.
Expect to get more details about your child's schedule on Tuesday and plan to attend the Hybrid Parent Night on Tuesday 3/30 at 6:00 via Zoom. I'll use that time to review our safety practices and arrival/dismissal procedures and well as provide resources for transitioning your child back to school. I will record that session for those who cannot attend.
I've added quite a few details to this final version of our Ridgewood Returns newsletter. Please bring any questions you have to our Parent Night, and I will reserve time at the end to answer them.
We look forward to seeing your kids back online on April 1st and in person on April 5th and 8th.

Health Screening
Arrival & Dismissal
Arrival
Parents must conduct this Home Health Screening of students before sending them to school.
Please send your child to school with a mask and full water bottle. Be prepared for the weather with jackets, umbrellas and footwear that can get wet.
Students riding the bus will be screened by the driver and if found to be symptomatic will be assigned a front bus seat.
Our playground is closed, including all structures and swings. The track will be open for walking six feet from other students/families.
Arrival begins at 8:45. If you arrive before then, please wait in your car or off campus. Please arrive by 8:55 so that students can be ready to learn at 9:00.
Staff will be outside until 9:05 to greet late students. Students arriving after 9:05 must ring the front door bell.
Classes are assigned entry doors. This map shows those doors. Upon arrival students will proceed to their door and wait on a numbered spot. Families may wait with their students until they are called to the door for screening.
A staff greeter will greet and screen each child, then direct them to sanitize their hands before walking to class.
Teachers will greet students in the classroom and get them started on their day.
Dismissal
If your child’s after school transportation plan changes, please call the front office (503-356-2440) by 10:15 so we can message the teacher. Do not email, as your message may not be read in time.
Please ensure your child knows his/her go-home plan, including whether or not an adult will wait undercover to pick them up or drive to the curb.
Students being met by an adult will exit the Blue Hall undercover area. Please wait on a spacing spot for your child.
Walkers, bikers, and curbside parent pick up students will exit the main front doors.
Bus riders will exit Red, Green & Orange Halls toward the back blacktop to load buses.
REACH students will walk down Blue Hall to the cafeteria entrance.
Ms. Jenson & Mr. Lowry’s students will exit Orange Hall East to load buses in the firelane.
Dismissal Timeline - wait to dismiss until called on the radio
11:18 - K-2 bus riders dismissed
11:21 - 4th & 5th grade walkers, parent pick up, REACH exit toward Blue hall, buses depart
11:24 - 2nd & 3rd grade walkers, parent pick up, REACH exit toward Blue Hall
11:27 - K & 1 walkers, parent pick up, REACH exit toward Blue Hall, SCC buses depart
11:30 - Remaining students wait on the front porch
Drivers are to pull forward as far as possible and continue to pull forward along the front of the school, as safety dictates, until they reach the end of the curb.
Staff will direct students to vehicles once they have stopped. Once students have loaded the car, drivers are to pull out into the driving lane allowing the next car to pull forward.
Parents who walk or park to pick up their children are asked to wait outside at the south end of the school under the covered play area. Buses round the corner here, so please use caution and use the designated crosswalk.
Please park only in designated parking spaces.
Students on bikes must walk their bikes until they are off campus.
Our campus is closed until 4:00. Please leave campus as soon as you have your child.
Have a great afternoon!
Check your Space
A staff member may get closer than six feet if a student requires assistance. If we are unable to verbally direct a child, we will quickly help them, then return to a six foot distance and sanitize hands. Students are encouraged to ask for help when they need it.
