Does spelling matter?

Of course, spelling is the backbone of the communication world, and without it where would anyone be? Imagine if everyone spelled words differently. What a nightmare. However, there is hope; anyone can become a good speller, and the only way to become a better speller is to practice. No one is born learning how to spell.

The students, who study for the spelling bee, are studying words in depth. Each word they learn, in preparation for the spelling bee, helps to increase the odds that the "students will be able to recognize it, spell it, define it, and use the word appropriately in speech and writing" (Vocab Spelling City). As they learn these words, students are also improving their reading and writing fluency. When students stop worrying about how to define, spell, or pronounce words, they can then spend more energy developing strong thoughts and start communicating their ideas to the world.
