FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S PEN
Tēnā koutou katoa
The rain this week dampened spirits as we were just starting to warm up to the Spring weather.
It also saw one of our Year 9 & 10 camp classes needing to adjust to the effects of rain at the end of their tramp around Lake Waikaremoana this week.
The class, ‘Survival of the Fittest’, put their survival skills to the test when the bus that was to pick them up was not able to rendevous with them due to a major slip across the road several kilometres before the Hopuruahine Landing pick up site.
After some deliberation, and suffering from the cold and rain, water taxis came to the rescue to get the students to Home Bay where they warmed up and enjoyed some comfort food. The bus was eventually able to bring them back to Gisborne; six hours later than planned. Our thanks go to our parent helpers.,Todd Buchanan and Nikki Latu and to the teachers, Brendon Hart and Jol Sparks.
With all our students, parents and staff back home safely we can reflect and congratulate all involved on the resilience shown and the detailed planning that went into coping with the unexpected. Great survival skills shown! We look forward to the sunny weather returning.

NCEA TEACHER ONLY DAYS
Please be advised that we have two Teacher Only Days in the coming weeks. These days have been set aside for teachers to prepare to the changes to NCEA. Please note that school will not be open on Monday, 21 November and Monday, 28 November for students in Years 7 - 10. NZQA exams will still run on Monday, 21 November, so students sitting on these exams are expected to attend.
NZQA EXTERNAL ASSESSMENTS AND TIMETABLE
NZQA External Examinations began on Monday for senior students. Please encourage your child to carefully check the exam timetable to ensure they know the date and time of each of their exams. Missed exams cannot be completed at an alternative time.
STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS
Congratulations to our very own Charlotte Jones who competed in the NZ Skateboarding Nationals held in Gisborne last weekend. Charlotte placed 4th in her heat for the Open Women's division and 9th overall! Charlotte also competed in the Grommets division placing 3rd and winning this awesome deck. Ka rawe tau mahi, Charlotte!
We love to hear about and celebrate our students' achievements.

BUSINESS PROJECT
On November 14th, Rehash Collective will open in conjunction with Global Entrepreneur Week in the Taiki E! Treble Court Storefront. This pop-up shop will have second-hand American sportswear - in an effort to promote fashion sustainability, provide background to iconic teams that pieces represent, and a business project for Year 13 student Kat Vanderbilt.
Check out @rehash.collective on Instagram and Facebook & swing by 29 Peel Street!
SCHOOL TEXT BOOKS & LIBRARY BOOKS
We have a number of outstanding text books and library books. As students finish using them for exams, we ask that these to be returned to the college office to avoid charges.
GIRLS' SKATE GROUP
The Girls' Skate group meets every Friday morning at 8.30 am at the skatepark. All levels of skill are welcome. We can give students a ride to Campion College in time for school afterwards. We'd love to see you joining in with this awesome group of keen skaters.
LEAVERS' DINNER
Our annual Leavers’ Dinner will be held on Sunday 4th December 2022 at the Bushmere Arms. Students leaving the secondary school system and parents are invited to this official function which is the last formal occasion on which the group meets. It is a requirement that all students attend with at least one parent.
The cost is $55.00 per person and tickets can be purchased through KINDO by Wednesday 30
November 2022.
Guests are welcome to arrive at 6.30pm for informal gathering and drinks, with the
official function starting at 7.00pm. In the past this evening has been most enjoyable for parents, students and staff attending. It is an opportunity to meet with and farewell our senior students as they embark on the next phase of their lives.
We do not like to see any of our families facing financial stress. If there is any student
who would like to attend but feel that their financial circumstances prevent this, please
see your learning mentor or Mrs Sadler.

A PRAYER FOR EXAMS
Lord, pour out Your Spirit of Wisdom on our students undergoing exams.
Help them to remain calm, to attend carefully to the questions asked, to think clearly, to remember accurately, and to express themselves well.
Grant that they may reflect the best of the work they have done,
and the best of the teaching they have received.
Accept their best efforts in these exams and in the great test of life on earth.
May your love be upon them, Oh Lord, as they place their trust in you.
We ask this through Christ our Lord,
Amen,
