Students Meet Prospective Employers At Job Fair 💵
Looking for a part-time job became that much easier for high school students as they were given the unique opportunity to meet with local businesses gathered for a job fair during the school day. From Silver Dollar City, to Nixa Parks and Recreation, and our own XLT many employers are looking for help this summer. Meanwhile students gained valuable experience while hoping to land that very first job!
Nixa High School One of Top Eight Schools in Missouri | Named a Gold Star School
Nixa High School has been named one of eight schools to receive the 2022 Gold Star School by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). This is the top award a school can receive in the state of Missouri.
The program, which aligns with the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, recognizes schools for outstanding academic achievement or for performing at high levels while serving a significant proportion of disadvantaged students.
30 Nixa Students Earn Missouri Seal of Biliteracy
Nixa High School had 30 seniors receive the Missouri Seal of Biliteracy this year. With this Seal on their transcript and their high scores on the proficiency exam in their chosen language of study, they will earn 12 college credits or more for FREE participating Missouri universities when they continue their language studies at the university level.
To achieve this award, students had to pass a proficiency test in their second language and score at least proficient on the English II EOC. Eshan Jain, Isaiah Holgerson, Emily Harris, and Ciline Humphrey received the Distinguished Seal of Biliteracy, meaning they scored advanced in all categories and are eligible for additional college credits. All of these students dedicated at least four years to learning their second language in order to become biliterate.
JTSD Holds First Harvest From Tower Garden
John Thomas School of Discovery (JTSD) revealed southwest Missouri's first tower farm! Students from JTSD gained hands on experience by growing the seeds, harvesting the lettuce, and serving it. The tower farm will provide donations to Least of These, Inc.
Grants from MFA Oil, Bass Pro Shops and The Stanley and Elaine Ball Foundation have funded this farming concept utilizing aeroponic technology to optimize year-round growing.
Nixa High School Spanish Students Win First Place at Foreign Language Field Day
For the 7th year in a row, Nixa students took first place in Spanish at the Foreign Language Field Day Competition held on April 15 at Joplin High School.
Alex Bewley placed second in the State Medical Terminology Competition
Alex Bewley placed second in the Medical Terminology competition at the SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference.
SkillsUSA is a national student organization that develops students for tradesman ships through competition.
Nixa Band Programs Festival Results
This past week the Nixa Band program participated in several contest festivals with their large ensembles. These five large ensembles involve over 300 students from the junior high and high school.
On April 14, at the MSHSAA State Large Ensemble festival, the HS Wind Ensemble earned a rating of Exemplary and the HS Symphonic Band earned a rating of Outstanding. On April 18, at the Parkview Large Ensemble festival, the two HS Concert Bands earned both earned ratings on Exemplary. And on April 19, also at the Parkview Festival, the 8th grade Band earned a rating of Exemplary.
Nixa High School's Advanced Women's Choir wins Traveling Trophy
The overall champion and first winner of the Nixa Choral Festival traveling trophy was Nixa High School's Advanced Women's Choir!
Nixa Women's, Men's, Advanced Women's, and Advanced Men's choirs all earned Superior ratings at the festival.
