Background Information

Christiaan Huygens was a Dutch mathematician, physicist and astronomer, born on 14th of April 1629 and died on the 8th of July 1695. He is well known for many discoveries which this smore is about.

Discoveries & Contributions To The Knowledge Of Our Solar System

Christiaan was known for discioveries on Saturn such as, describing saturns rings and discovering it's largest moon Titan [1659]. He also did some discovering on Mars such as, discovering Syrtis Major which is a large dark spot on Mars [13/10/1659], estimating a martian day to be 24 hours by observing Syrtis Major [1659], and estimating the size of Mars to be 60% of Earth's size [1659]. He also described life on other planets other than earth.

Christiaan also has a crater on Mars named after him which is called, Huygens Crater.

Technologies Used

Christiaan Huygens made many discoveries with a telescope because it was only the 1600's. He even used the eyehole on his telescope to estimate the size of Mars!
