Woodbury Junior-Senior High School - Weekly Newsletter

Message from the Principal
Hello parents,
November is coming to a close and that means parent conferences start next week. Conferences are a time for you to speak directly with each of your child's teachers and get a real sense of how they are doing with their coursework. The grade on the report card only tells part of the story. Please be sure to come out to speak with teachers next week and help cement that home-school bond. Plus AVID will be selling pretzels during that time and FBLA will be selling donuts for fundraisers - yum!
Conferences for Junior High are student-led. That means each family (student and parents) are scheduled for a 10 minute session with your child's entire team of teachers. The student shares a presentation that reviews his/her academic work and their self-assessed strengths/weaknesses. Following the student presentation, the adults will have time to discuss performance thus far and any recommendations they may have. If you have not already done so, parents must sign up for a conference time; please click on the appropriate link below:

Ari Ford Selected as All-Pro Teacher by Philadelphia Eagles & Axalta
Woodbury's very own Ari Ford was selected as an Axalta All-Pro Teacher! The Philadelphia Eagles and Axalta Coating Systems developed the All-Pro Teacher platform to recognize outstanding teachers (6th grade – 12th grade) in the tri-state area for their contribution to their students, school and community. After reading hundreds of nominations, Mr. Ford's story stood out and deserved to be recognized as a member of this year’s class.
As one of the ten teachers that will be given this honor in 2018, he will receive the following benefits:
- $2,000 donation to the school to be used for school supplies or programming
- Four (4) tickets to an Eagles home game – Sunday, December 23rd, vs. the Houston Texans
- Pre-game Visit to the Axalta Tunnel Club
- One (1) reserved parking pass
- Personalized Replica Eagles jersey
- Invitation for four (4) guests to attend the Awards Reception at Lincoln Financial Field in the West Club this December 12th
- Nomination for Teacher of the Year Award and the chance to earn an incremental $5,000 donation to the school to be used for school supplies (to be presented at the award reception)

Thanksgiving Baskets
The Junior-Senior High School counseling departments, with donations from the NHS, PTSA, and our wonderful students and staff, were able to provide Thanksgiving baskets to 10 families from our community this holiday. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the Woodbury Acme for donating turkeys and other holidays fixings for those in need in our community. We wouldn’t have been able to do this without the help and support of the entire Woodbury family.
6th Grade Book Club
Ms. Moody, our district librarian, has started a 6th grade Book Club for those students who are excelling in their reading and have demonstrated a sincere interest in books. Reading the same books, students meet with Ms. Moody and discuss the characters and themes. Take a look at the short videos below.

Woodbury Community Closet
The mission of the Woodbury Community Closet is to provide students with resources they may not have available otherwise.
The closet will be full of non-perishable food items, toiletries, and clothing that will be donated by faculty, students, and people from the community. Please give donations to Mrs. Dougherty or Ms. Comer.
Students will be able to order items of need through an online google site. Inventory will be taken by student council members and uploaded to the site weekly so the students have an accurate list to choose from.
Orders will be filled by Mrs. Dougherty or Ms. Comer and delivered confidentially to the student(s) in need. Please consider helping this worthwhile cause.
