Summer School Registration Information
Gilbert Public Schools Community,
For the 2018 GPS Secondary Summer School Session, we will be changing the registration procedures.
In previous years, registration was done through Community Education and their online system. This year we are moving registration to work within Infinite Campus, using InTouch. Moving to Infinite Campus has allowed us to work with the school counselors to create a system in which Summer School recommendations come directly from your child’s counselor.
This year, to register for a summer school course, a request will need to be placed with your child’s counselor. That counselor will then suggest the course in Infinite Campus and place the course fee suggestion in the Parent Portal for our InTouch payment system.
Parents will receive an email that the course has been suggested and that they can then find it under the Highland High School (location of 2018 summer school) tab in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal to pay for it. Once payment is received, the student will be registered for the course and a confirmation email will be sent.
Registration opens March 21st. However, students can visit their counselor and request classes prior to that date. Payment and registration cannot be completed until March 21st.
For more information, please visit our webpage: Summer School Information
If you have any questions about the Secondary Summer School process, please email us: summerschool@gilbertschools.net
If you have any questions on what class is best to take for your child this summer, please contact your child’s school counselor.

Library information - March Madness
It is time for the Library's March Madness competition (this will be our 9th year!). The way it works is that we take the 8 most checked out books from the 2017-2018 new releases and pit them in a bracket style competition. Each day, two books will go up against each other and the winner will move on in the competition until we have an overall winner. All students and staff are allowed to participate. The voting will be open everyday from 7:15-2:45. The competition begins on March 20 and continues everyday until March 29.
Remember, time and time again, reading has proven to be one of the most important factors in academic success. Of course many argue it helps in overall life success as well. And here's the article you may have heard of that showed the reading habits of some of the most successful people.
So, let's have fun reading...it can only help you.

Library Information - Chromebooks
Chromebooks need to be charged daily. A good rule of thumb for students is to charge the Chromebook at night. Plug it in before bed and it will be all charged in the morning. Also, remember that the library has charging stations available to students during lunch. If a student notices that the battery is getting low, he/she can charge it during lunch to get through the rest of the school day.

LIBRARY INFORMATION - Top readers
Here are the top ten readers per grade level at the end of 3rd quarter. These statistics show how many checkouts they have done during their career at Campo Verde. We are so proud of them!

Theatre Arts & English department
The Theatre Arts and the English department combined to bring Southwest Shakespeare to our CVHS campus. The performers presented an abridged version of Twelfth Night, which the theatre arts students had studied this quarter. The performance was reminiscent of a traditional travelling company of performers with a bare-bones set, only essential props and costume pieces and performers playing multiple parts. After the performance, theatre arts students enjoyed a workshop from company education director Joshua Murphy.
Theatre Arts' drama council members answered a call to volunteer at this year's Japanese Festival, the Matsuri. The Matsuri, held at Heritage and Science Park in Phoenix, promotes Japanese culture. Students spent the afternoon of February 25 helping in Festival booths and then assisted with cleanup.

2018 ARIZONA ALL STATE MUSICIANS SELECTED
The Campo Verde High School Performing Arts Programs continue to shine bright. After being chosen as Regional Honor Festival Members, these amazing students then had the opportunity to compete at the State level against numerous other talented young adults from across Arizona. This is no easy feat as it encompasses months of practice, fine-tuning their skills and each of these members should be proud of their recognition as an All-State musician. Again, we must recognize the amazing teachers, Matt Flora, Choir Director, Crystal Payne, Director of Orchestras, and Matt Kozacek, Director of Bands, for their instruction and guidance. If you would like to see these outstanding students perform, the All-State Orchestra, Band & Choir Concert will take place at the University of Arizona, Centennial Hall in Tucson on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 3:00pm and admission is free.
Please congratulate the following students for their incredible auditions and their acceptance into this year’s All State High School Festival:

AZ Youth Survey-March 26
CVHS sophomores and seniors have been asked to participate in a survey conducted by the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission. This survey is anonymous and will give the state and our school feedback on teen behaviors and attitudes regarding substance abuse and other areas of concern for youth in today's society.
The AYS survey will take place through our social studies classes on March 26 and will require one class period. Please read through the list of FAQs provided for parents for more information. If you have specific questions, you may contact Theresa Hallock in the counseling department. theresa.hallock@gilbertschools.net
