Meet Your AAPEAC Officers
What's Happening in the 2022-2023 School Year?
Myiesha Majors, Chairwoman
Hello Parents! I'm grateful to be your AAPEAC Chairwoman the 2022-2023 school year. I am excited to be serving a second year as Chairwoman. As a mom, my goal is to always be a part of my son's educational journey. I strive to be an engaged and involved parent. I am honored to partner with our district leadership, as well as our AAPEAC advisory committee, to amplify our children's achievements, support diversity and inclusion in our classrooms, and ultimately close the learning gap. We ask for your engagement to ensure our kids continue to receive the support our district strives to provide. Please reach out if you have any questions. Thank you!
Tawni Flot-Williams, Vice Chairwoman
Being part of the AAPEAC Executive Board has been a wonderful experience and I am honored to now serve in the capacity of Vice Chairwoman. During the 20/21 school year, we accomplished so much and it has been an inspiration to witness the efforts of AAPEAC come to realization. I am excited to continue in this work dedicated to ensuring that African American students in ESD receive an equitable and rigorous education. Our students deserve it and I am glad to be part of a team who believes the same. If you have any questions, I am here to help.
Nicole Edun, Secretary
As an African American woman, wife and mother of two Grizzlies and one Eagle, I am beyond excited and humbled to be Secretary for AAPEAC once again. I have a longstanding passion for assisting at-promise communities and I feel so blessed to have the privilege of helping Etiwanda improve wellness and outcomes for our students and educators. Thank you so much for electing me as your secretary; I will do my best to help the committee achieve all goals set out for this year. Please feel free to reach out to me if you require my assistance.

Moving Forward with Equitable Practices
Each Etiwanda school has a teacher representative who collectively compose the ESD Equity Cadre. Last year, this cadre engaged in a study focused on approaching instruction with a culturally and linguistically responsive (CLR) lens. Using Dr. Sharroky Hollie’s framework, this team built their knowledge of CLR's core principles of validating, affirming, building and bridging, also known as VABB. Additionally, this team participated in a Summer Institute with Dr. Hollie's team that gave a deeper dive into common cultural behaviors as well as concrete strategies and structures to cultivate learning in diverse classrooms.
This school year, the Equity Cadre will work alongside district leadership to facilitate a learning or reflective activity for all teachers each month during a staff meeting. Anchored by Dr. Hollie's book, teachers district-wide will explore ways to value, honor, and respond to students’ backgrounds and cultures.
While many school traditions such as in-person meetings and family nights will resume this school year, maintaining safe and healthy learning environments continues to be Etiwanda's priority. Systems upgrades for classrooms ventilation are still working to provide higher quality air conditions for students. Facilities and equipment are regularly cleaned and sanitized and healthy hygiene practices such as hand washing and sanitizing are consistently encouraged. Families will likely notice that some students and staff choose to continue wearing masks and face coverings are still available for anyone who requests one while on campus. School offices also have at-home COVID-19 tests available for families who make a request and this practice will continue as inventory allows. While school staff looks forward to returning to more normalized school operations, it's more important now than ever to keep children home when they are sick. Let's all work together to keep students safe and healthy!
