Summer Worship Series on Ten Commandments Begins Sunday
Nearly everyone has heard of the Ten Commandments, the list of “thou-shalt-nots” found in the Bible. Jesus saw these commandments not as onerous burdens, but as guardrails to help us experience a good and beautiful life. Every “thou-shalt-not” points to a life-giving “thou shalt.” These ancient words were given by a loving God who longs to protect us from harm while pointing toward a deeply meaningful and joyful life.
Join us on Sunday as we begin our summer worship series, Words of Life, based on Adam Hamilton’s new book, Words of Life: Jesus and the Promise of the Ten Commandments Today.
Sunday, June 6 | Week 1 | No Other Gods
What if we view the Ten Commandments as a set of guideposts or guardrails aimed at helping us experience the goodness and beauty that God interned? The first commandment is an invitation to put God first in our lives and ultimately find true life.

Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday About Simplified Leadership Structure
Join us for a Town Hall meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 8, in the sanctuary or via Facebook Live as we explore the possibility of moving to a new model of church leadership.
The Town Hall meeting is intended to provide information and allow an opportunity for questions. A decision will not be made during the meeting. Afterward, there will be an ice cream fellowship.
For those wanting to watch virtually, the meeting will air live on the church’s Facebook page. Questions can be asked in the comments and will be answered during the live meeting.
The Core Leadership Team has been in conversation about the Simplified Leadership Structure for several months and now wants to explore this as a congregation. The thought is that a new organizational structure would improve efficiency, accountability, and mission focus.
A 40-minute overview video produced by Lay Leader Stephen Greenwade provides more details about the proposed leadership structure. The video and other resources are available through the button below.
Join in Canned Meat Challenge During VBC
Our Vacation Bible Camp participants will be collecting canned meat items for the Christian Community Action Food Pantry this month and any donations from the congregation during this time will go toward their goals!
Leave canned meat donations in the grocery cart in front of the church at any time. The special VBC challenge runs this Sunday through Sunday, June 27. An update on the collection numbers will be posted each week in The Vista.
The goals by noon Sunday, June 27:
- 1,000 canned meat items collected: snow cones for all Vista Kids/VBC Campers after the 11 a.m. worship service that day
- 1,500 canned meat items collected: a Vista Island Pirate Party event in August
Join in the fun for our Vista Kids and support our community partner. The big winner will be the angels served by Christian Community Action.
New Small Group Meeting on June 5
The second half of life can bring the rewards of retirement and less hectic schedules, times of reflection on earlier life experiences, and the satisfaction of lives well lived. At the same time, it can bring some anxiety and questions about the future. How are people of faith to continue serving God when changing circumstances—health issues, losses, and/or new environments—seem to pose limitations or consume almost all of one’s time and energy?
Beginning Saturday, June 5, a new small group called Harvesters will begin meeting virtually on Zoom, and participants will have opportunities to discuss how to address challenges and concerns, and also to share joys, hopes, and inspiration. The group will meet on the first and third Saturday of each month from 10-11 a.m.
Those interested are asked to email firstname.lastname@example.org to receive the Zoom link for the meeting.
HELP NEEDED FOR CHURCH WORKDAY ON June 12
Our trustees have planned a workday from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 12, to make improvements to the church grounds. Projects will include tree and shrub trimming. Dress comfortably and bring a pair of gloves.
The borrowing of ladders and tree trimming equipment would be helpful. Please make sure the equipment is labeled with your name.
