SAS Update
August 28, 2020
It was so wonderful to have a full building this week! The happy laughter and high energy were sincerely missed during our time away. Having the rest of our at-home learners join us on Thursday makes us feel complete. We are truly blessed at St. Ann School!
REMINDERS:
- Today was the deadline for parents to determine whether their students will be face to face or e-learners for the duration of the trimester, which ends on November 30, 2020. Now that we know who is in person and who is remote, we can really dig in to learning and establish the best routines for everyone's success!
- Please make certain that your students' masks fit them well. When masks are too big or too small, the children tend to touch their faces a lot, fidgeting with them, or removing them altogether. Many vendors (such as Old Navy) sell inexpensive, washable, child-sized masks for littler students.
All are welcome to join us in an outdoor Mass in our parking lot on Saturday! Cars may enter through the 181st Street entrance (near the back of church) beginning at 5:30 p.m. and park facing south as directed by the greeters. Please wear a mask and remain in your car. Hand sanitizer and Communion will be brought to you in your car. Please reserve your spot by calling the Parish Office and leaving a message: 708.895.6700.
Elections
Candidates for our 2020/21 Student Council Executive Board will make campaign speeches to their fellow middle schoolers on Wednesday, September 2 at 2:00 p.m. outdoors. Elections will then take place on Thursday. Ordinarily, the Executive Board would have been elected in the spring, but since we are on a slightly delayed schedule, we are eager to get our Student Council up and running! 5th-8th Grade class representatives will be chosen after that at the classroom level.
Chromebook Chargers
Our 5th-8th grade in-school learners should bring their Chromebooks to school fully charged every day. We also seem to be short on chargers for some of our devices. Parents, can you please make sure you do not have last year's Chromebook chargers still at home? If so, please send them back into school. Thank you!
Student Desks/Chairs for Home Use
Anyone need student desks or chairs for their home classrooms? For families who are setting up e-learning areas at home, we have extra student desks and chairs to lend if you would like to use them for your children's "school away from school." They are compact and have a nice storage area for keeping home classrooms neat and supplies handy. If you are interested, please fill out the form at this link, and we will contact you to arrange a pickup time. Not just for the e-learners, but also for any SAS student who would like to set up a homework area!
No School!
Formal Uniforms Begin September 14
While it's been fun coming in casual every day, we will begin wearing formal uniforms on September 14. Full dress code is available to download and print here. Our uniform vendor is Dennis Uniform, 8345 Indianapolis Boulevard, Highland, IN. You may order from their website, school code GANNH, or call ahead for curbside pickup, 219-838-7120. The gray polos that were missing from the website are now available. We do have some pieces available in our Used Uniform Shoppe for $5 each. Call the school office to inquire.
We are excited to once again participate in the Apples for the Students program through our local Strack & VanTil store! Last year, we accumulated enough points to purchase cameras and video equipment. Please ask everyone you know to save their Strack's receipts from September 1 - March 1, and have your child bring them in to school. We will have collection envelopes in every classroom. Thank you!
