Why a 1:1 take home Program?
Union School District believes that the integration of technology into the learning process is essential to preparing students for their futures. 1:1 technology provides anytime/anywhere learning and opens the doors to collaboration, problem solving and critical thinking skills that students need to compete and contribute in our local and the global society.
By preparing our students to communicate and collaborate in an ethical and safe manner we are preparing them for their futures. The Common Core Standards both explicitly and implicitly require students in all grades to use technology to research, collaborate, and create original works. Additionally, the end-of-the-year California State Assessments begin in third grade and are administered entirely on a computer. Using technology throughout the year in an authentic manner will better prepare our students for this new generation of assessments.
Student Expectations:
- Bring your device to school every day
- Charge your device at home each night
- Keep the protective case on the Chromebook at all times
- If something breaks, let your teacher know as soon as possible.
- Tell your teacher or an appropriate adult if you find threatening, disturbing, or inappropriate content while using your Chromebook
- At home, your parents or guardians may make their own rules for the Chromebooks.
For Parents and Guardians:
- Having a device at home does not trump your parenting/guardianship philosophy - you should discuss your rules and expectations for your student.
- Contact your site tech (Jenny Torres, at Lietz - torresj@unionsd.org) if you need technical support. You can also email help@unionsd.org for assistance.
- We use Securly for web filtering. This provides internet filtering outside of school as well, allowing home filtering, if you have it, to work in combination with Securly.
- Ensuring students' safety requires a combination of "over the shoulder" monitoring and periodically reviewing internet activity and appropriate use.
- In the event that the Chromebook is stolen or lost, file a police report immediately. Also, report the loss to your child's teacher or site administrator. You are responsible for the replacement cost of the device, payable to the school site.
