A Message From Dr. Duckworth and Dr. Nunn
Congratulations to all! What a positive, engaging and enthusiastic start to the school year in spite of being virtual. We are so very proud of the Craig school community. In the first week of school we have seen great attendance and amazing engagement with distance learning. Make it a Super September Craig Owls and let us know if there is anything we can do to help.

Notes from the Library
Library Curbside Pickup Service
We will be starting a curbside pickup service for library books on September 10th! If your child would like books, please fill out this form by the Monday before the curbside date (for the first round it will be due Tuesday, the 8th because of Labor Day). Students will receive bundles of 4 books. The curbside service will be every other Thursday from 4:30-6:00. If you placed a book order, you'll come up to the circle drive at Craig during that time. You'll tell us your name (you could even hold up a sign with your family's last name) and we'll get your books from inside and bring them to your car. You can return library books at the next curbside pickup date. I will also share the form before each new round of curbside pickup. Please let me know if you have any questions!
To participate in the St. Louis County Library's curbside pickup service, please learn more information here.
Sora App
Your child also has access to eBooks through the Sora app! Your child can access this app through Clever. You can also link the St. Louis County Library to your child's account. If your child was a Parkway student last year, he/she has a SLCL virtual library card (Virtual Library Card: 095+student number... pin: 1234). If not, you can get a library card from the SLCL and use that instead. To checkout Parkway books, your child only needs his/her Parkway Google login information. To learn more about the Sora app, check out this tutorial.
Stick Together
Last school year, students had a blast completing the Stick Together poster when they visited the library. Stick Together has created virtual posters for students to work on while virtual learning. Checkout Craig's virtual Stick Together poster! Your child can visit our poster to add a couple of stickers. I can't wait to see what it ends up being... Craig Owls Stick Together!

Nurse's Notes
Is your child in need of glasses? Eye Thrive aka the Vision Van is a resource that Parkway has used in past years to get students glasses. Due to the current situation the company has changed the way they will provide resources to families this year. If your child has a current glasses prescription (generally good for 1 year) you can complete an order form and Eye Thrive will make and ship a new pair of glasses to your home free of charge.
Don't have a valid prescription? Eye Thrive will be visiting 6 libraries in the St. Louis area to perform free eye exams. If glasses are prescribed at this time they will also be covered free of charge. See attached flyer for dates and locations. For more info or questions, please contact Nurse Gunn at agunn@parkwayschools.net. You can also visit their website at eyethrive.org

14 Day Racial Justice Challenge
We've all seen the awful murders of George Floyd and others come to light this summer. We all know that this is not a new problem, that race is a problem embedded in the foundations of the country. Over that past few years, Craig staff have been involved in social justice and equity work of some form. Now we would like to open up an opportunity for parents to join us in our fight against racism.
The opportunity is a 14 Day Racial Justice Challenge. During the challenge, participants will be asked to complete one task per day, reflect on that task, and respond to a friend. We will send out the tasks when the time comes, and there will be a menu of tasks. Podcasts, blogs, articles, videos, quizzes, observations, conversations, reflections... the Challenge asks us to take stock of ourselves and our world and how the role of race impacts it.
We understand that some of you may have participated in this before, and that's great! Feel free to join this challenge or not. It's up to you. Here are some questions and answers you might have:
Where do we get the tasks?
We will send them out on the morning of the first day. You'll have all of the tasks from the beginning, and there are more than 14. You'll choose your own path through the challenge.
Where do we respond?
We will have an online platform for participants to share out.
When are we doing this?
At the moment, we are gathering interest. Our hope is to begin in early October with our parent group.
Do I gotta? Do I?
Nope. It's optional. But we'd love to have you!
Where do I sign up?
Right here! Even if you're not sure about it, you can let me know that you want more information. Just fill out the form (It’s only a few questions).
Anything else?
We really appreciate the opportunity to work with you, if you choose to join. This will be lead by Dr. Duckworth, Erica Rochester (5th grade teacher and building Equity In Action representative) and Ken Susman (Parkway Progress Monitoring Coach and 2nd grade parent).
Thanks again, and we are looking forward to hearing from you!
And again, here's the link to sign up!

Distance Learning Parkway COPPA Letter
During Distance Learning and throughout the 20-21 school year, our school would like to use a variety of online tools at various grade levels to provide engaging and authentic learning opportunities for students. The online tools listed in the table below will be used in addition to the already district approved tools of GSuite for Edu, Schoology, Zoom, Adobe Spark, WeVideo and applications available in Clever.
Before using these tools, we wanted to make you aware of federal regulations that apply to operators of websites and require parental consent when they collect information for children under the age of 13, as described below.
In order for students to use these programs/services, certain personal information must be provided to each website operator. Under the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), these websites must provide parental notification and obtain parental consent before collecting personal information from children under the age of 13. For more information on COPPA, please visit bit.ly/ftccoppafaq.
Schools are permitted to consent to the collection of personal information on behalf of parents of students, thereby eliminating the need for individual parental consent given directly to the website operator. Before doing so, we are providing you with this notice and opportunity to opt out.
Please take a moment to look at the websites we’ll be using, why we will be using them, as well as what personal information the site collects outlined in their privacy. We will have your student use his or her District-provided email account with these sites. If you would like to know which specific websites your child will be using in his or her class, please reach out to his/her classroom teacher.
