Principal's Note
Dear Families,
The new year is off to a great start! I have been visiting classrooms to watch instruction and am excited to see all the learning and growth students have been making. Report cards are coming up. This year the district has a new format for reporting progress. More communication will be coming at the beginning of February to help you interpret your child's current levels in core academic areas.
Interested in getting more involved or learn more about what happening at Sexton? Join us for a PTC meeting on January 24 at 6:30 pm.
If you have any questions, please call or stop by. Office hours are 8:00-4:00, Monday-Friday.
Winter Reading Incentive
Students were excited to bring in their completed Winter Break bingo cards for prizes. Students will have another opportunity to participate in a reading incentive over Spring Break!
Playground Construction
Bond dollars are used for new construction but also for replacing aging "structures." Our swings are a high use item on our playground. They were in need of replacement and slated to be replaced over Winter Break. Unfortunately, due to weather conditions, the project is behind schedule. We expect the project to be completed in the next few weeks.
Makerspace request
Makerspace will be learning about circuits soon. Students will be using conductive dough (Play Doh) during this exploration and we need lots of it. If you have time to make conductive dough at home, it is a fun activity to do with kids. The following link gives instructions on how to make it. Please send any color of conductive dough to school with your child in a resealable bag.

Thank you for all your support of Makerspace. If you have any questions, please email Geralyn_ingalls@beaverton.k12.or.us

Safe Routes to School
Resolve to Be More Active! Welcome back to school! January is a perfect time to try walking or biking to school -- for your health, your community, and the planet! 1 mile of walking each way to school equals 2/3 of the daily recommended 60 minutes of physical activity. Get your steps in while decreasing the traffic and air pollution around your school and neighborhood.
Volunteering at Sexton Mountain
Volunteering information: https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/departments/communications-community-involvement/volunteer
To visit the building during student hours 8:15-3:05 you need to have a volunteer background check and be registered as a volunteer in Better Impact. I would encourage you to register now to prevent any delay before the special event. Once you register with Better Impact, if you log in once a year you will be set to volunteer for the duration of your child's school career. The teachers, students and I are thrilled to have special events back. Thank you for volunteering.
