FOOTLOOSE, the musical
A Grand Blanc Performing Arts Department Production
Broadway Musical FOOTLOOSE at Grand Blanc High School April 20- 22, 2017
Footloose is the story of Ren McCormack, a teenage boy from Chicago. He and his mother move to the small town of Bomont after his father abandons them. Upon arriving, Ren finds himself at odds with most of the town, including the Reverend Bomont. The Reverend has convinced the town to outlaw dancing, which Ren finds unbelievable. With the help of the Ariel (the Reverend’s daughter) and Willard (a country hick who becomes his best friend), Ren convinces the Reverend to let the teenagers dance, and in the process helps the town to heal from a tragedy that affected them all.
Grand Blanc Performing Arts Department goes all out with FOOTLOOSE!
Grand Blanc’s production continues the tradition of large-scale production of annual Broadway musicals with challenging vocal requirements and professionally choreographed dance numbers in the show. The production includes a cast of over 30 actors, singers and dancers on stage, over 30-production crew members, directed by Mrs. Denise Botzki and includes a live orchestra directed by Grand Blanc High School Instrumental Music Director, Mr. Corbin Hutchison and Grand Blanc High School Vocal Director and piano accompanist Mrs. Sarah Stockton.
The production has gained additional popularity since it was first produced as a film several years ago but then rewritten as a Broadway Musical over 10 years ago. Today, semi-professional, college, high school and community theatres across the country include FOOTLOOSE as part of the season because its appeal is to families and theatre patrons of all ages!!
