Mason Dixon Elementary - Celebrating Kindness Month

After School Enrichment and Tutoring Activities for February

In January students have been having fun in our after school enrichment classes, learning all about weather, coding with DASH robots, and how the eye works. Students have also been taking advantage of tutoring sessions available to get a little extra help with their homework or topics they are studying in class. In February, students have the opportunity to sign up for additional science offerings from the SPARK Imagination and Science Center and 3rd graders can participate in coding with DASH. Thanks to parents Charla Blosser and Megan Stewart who have stepped up to offer students classes in Healthy Snacks, Arts and Crafts and a Dominoes Club. Tutoring is also available for your children on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The sign up sheet that was sent home on Jan 29th is attached below and can be printed and sent in if yours has been misplaced. Please consider having your child participate in at least one activity. Snack is provided after school and parent pickup is at 5:00

Learning After School Is So Much Fun!

Kindness Week February 10-14

The week of February 10 - 14 we will be celebrating Kindness Week at Mason Dixon. Teachers will be engaging students in a variety of learning activities that focus on kindness and building positive friendships. On Friday February 14th teachers will be hosting Valentines Friendship Parties for our students, these will be closed parties designed to allow students to focus on celebrating each other within their classrooms with the opportunities for games and snacks shared with their classmates. Teachers will be sending home details for their class activities in their newsletters. On February 12th we will be having our Family Literacy Event with BINGO for books, we hope you can bring your family and support a love of reading for your children.

Attendance Matters

Just a reminder that while excused absences do not result in any legal issues for parents, excessive student absences even when excused do impact the academic success of students. Research says that missing as little as 2 days per month which adds up to 18 days per year causes students to fall behind their peers academically. Mason Dixon Elementary has the highest absence rate in Monongalia County among elementary schools and did not achieve adequate attendance rates to meet state accountability standards for the 2018-2019 school year. How can you help? Please make sure that your child is in school every day, for the full day, unless they are ill. You will be setting them up for a successful future with good attendance in high school and the world of work.

Pre-K and Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten Registration begins February 3 - call the school to sign up for a time to attend

Pre-K Registration begins February 4 - register online, or call Dorsey Center to sign up if no internet access is available

Music Class

With this year’s county levy allocation, Mrs. Terry purchased a drum set for the music room. Mason Dixon students have been releasing their inner rock stars! (P.S. send earplugs- just kidding!)

Any fifth grade choir member interested in participating in this year’s All-County Choir should see Mrs. Terry. Rehearsals are on Wednesday nights from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm at Mountaineer Middle School beginning the last week of March with a concert at the Met on Friday May 1st. Only choir members may participate and students must be able to attend all rehearsals. Contact Mrs Terry (rlterry@k12.wv.us) with any questions.
