INTRAMURAL SPORTS INFO
Beginning this Monday, January 31st, after-school intramurals will now run from 2:30 - 3:30 p.m.
Intramurals are after-school sports for Novi Meadows 5th and 6th graders. Students compete against each other in a sport. There are no established teams, but rather the teams are determined at each session. We stress fair play, good sportsmanship, and teamwork...while having fun learning and playing games with our friends. Students should have appropriate shoes in order to participate.
Please see the attached documents for our FAQ and schedule.
HUMAN GROWTH & DEVELOPMENT
Human Growth and Development - Novi Meadows
This year we will be presenting the Human Growth and Development Lessons to all 5th and 6th graders on Friday, February 18, 2022.
Teachers will separate the boys and girls into separate rooms. Students will then watch 2 videos (see below) on their own chromebook using headphones.
- 5th grade Girls: Video 1 - 5th grade girls, Video 2 - My Changing Life - Girls
- 5th grade Boys: Video 1 - 5th grade boys, Video 2 - My Changing Life - Boys
- 6th grade Girls: Video 1 - 6th grade girls, Video 2 - HIV/AIDS video
- 6th grade Boys: Video 1 - 6th grade boys, Video 2 - HIV/AIDS video
Teachers on the team will supervise the students as they watch the videos. There will not be any class discussion after the videos are viewed. Students will be encouraged to share any questions they have with a trusted adult at home.
There will be opportunities for parents to preview these videos on Thursday , Feb 10 from 7:00-8:00 p.m. or on Saturday, February 12 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. The video links will only be viewable during these specific times. Details on how to log in will be sent out closer to the event.
If you would like to opt your student out of these videos, please email Mrs. Fenchel (lisa.fenchel@novik12.org) or Mr. Brickey (john.brickey@novik12.org) to be added to the "Opt Out" list. All students who are not on the "Opt Out" list will watch the videos on Feb 18.
COUNSELORS CORNER
Kindness Week!
Next week, February 14-18, we will celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Week at Novi Meadows. There will be daily activities for students and staff and we are encouraging everyone to participate! Please ask your child about how they are participating and continue to encourage them to participate in the February Kindness Challenge!
KEEPING A FOCUS ON RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY AND A SENSE OF COMMUNITY
We are trying to focus on the positive things our 6th grade students are doing here at Novi Meadows.
When we see students making responsible choices, doing the right thing, and giving back to their school and peers, we pass out a VIP ticket to share our appreciation.
All VIP tickets go in a weekly drawing for an opportunity to eat lunch in the VIP Cafe.
Once a week, a VIP winner is announced and that student’s entire lunch table gets to eat in the VIP Cafe for a day.
We hope our students are enjoying this as much as we are! We are so proud of these students and the positive impact they are making at Novi Meadows. Above is a picture of our most recent VIP winner, Ethan Gould.

ABSENT HOMEWORK
Novi Meadows Parents:
When students are absent, teachers will do their best to fill them in on the work they miss. Teachers utilize a variety of tools to keep students up to date on work (Schoology, Google Classroom, on-line planners, etc.). It is not feasible to have absent students Zoom into classes that are happening at school. In addition, teachers are not able to privately Zoom with students who are absent to reteach the lessons. Teachers will provide the work that can be replicated to students upon their return. It is not always possible to recreate classroom discussion or activities

DROP OFF TIMES AND FLOW OF TRAFFIC
This year we have modified our drop off times for the beginning of the day to help with traffic and congestion on Taft Rd. We will be opening the doors to Meadows at 7:15am (School still starts at 7:30am).
Students who are taking a bus, parent drop off, or walkers will be able to enter the building at this time. Students will go to their respective cafeteria and wait until 7:20am. At that time they will be released to their classrooms.
If you are a parent who drives their students to or from school, please make sure to pull all the way up to allow for the maximum number of cars along the sidewalk. In addition, if you are able to carpool, that might help to alleviate the large number of vehicles in the line.
In addition, please do not drop students off in the middle of the parking lot. This creates an unsafe situation for them and for other drivers who are trying to navigate a busy area. Please wait in the line and drop them off along the curb. They should always exit the vehicle on the right.
Parents of 6th graders who are dropping off students should be aware that buses will need to use the left lane and turn in front of the 6th grade house to access the loading area for students. Please do not block the driveway.
Thank you again for your patience as we focus on getting students to and from school safely.
Sincerely,
Principals Fenchel and Brickey
FOOD SERVICES
