Hello, Parkwood Families!
Welcome back and Happy New Year! I hope you were able to spend some quality time with your family and friends over break. It has been a wonderful week back to school after the break. We began our second semester on Monday, January 3. Students brought home their report card on Friday, January 7. Please be sure to review your child’s report card and have a conversation with your child about his/her academic progress to date. You may keep the report card, but please sign and return the report card envelope.
Our beloved Mrs. Vicki Keivel is retiring. She has been at Parkwood in our office for over 28 years. Her last day at Parkwood is Monday, January 31. Mrs. Keivel has seen generations of families go through Parkwood. She will be greatly missed! Mrs. Lula Kersteiner will be our new Administrative Assistant beginning February 1. Our students and many of our parents know Mrs. Kersteiner. She has worked with Mrs. Keivel in the office for 7 years and is very excited to continue the excellence and traditions of our Parkwood office!
During the month of January, our character trait is a focus on Responsibility: The ability to respond appropriately when making decisions. We all want our children to grow up to be responsible adults and productive citizens in society. We want them to feel, think, and act with respect for themselves and for others. Responsibility is a skill that develops over time as people grow and mature and experience. The great thing about this journey is that practicing responsibility is all about choices. We have a great opportunity to praise children for making good choices and to teach and counsel them when they make mistakes. This is what growing up is all about! I would encourage you to talk about the importance of responsibility and challenge your student to think about the choices they make and what it means to be responsible.
Sincerely,
Sue Bamford
