From the Principal:
Mustang Families,
Last week we completed the end of our second trimester! Teachers have been gathering data and preparing report cards, which will go home with your child this Friday, March 24th. Often there is concern or confusion about report card grades, so here is a reminder of our scoring:
- 4- student is consistently working and demonstrating standards a year above grade level
- 3- student is consistently demonstrating mastery of grade level standards
- 2- student is approaching mastery of grade level standard OR grade level standards are still being taught and mastered
- 1- Student is far below mastery of the grade level standard.
It's great to be a MUSTANG!

Fourth and Fifth Grade Puberty, CSHE, and HIV Lessons
Comprehensive sexual health education is defined in Washington state as instruction about human development and reproduction that takes place over time and is age-appropriate and inclusive of all students. Required instruction for grades 4–5 focuses on helping students understand and respect personal boundaries, develop healthy friendships, and gain a basic understanding of human growth and development. Grade 5 instruction also includes required HIV prevention instruction. To learn more about the curriculum and parent opt out forms, please click the picture that says, "Puberty, the Wonder Years." This will take you to the district website which is filled with information.
Social Emotional Learning Corner

Shades of Happy
Kindergarteners have learned about the emotion/feeling of happiness and written/drawn their personal connections to this emotion. We will explore this emotion through books, videos and personal thoughts.
1st – 5th grades are learning about the Shades of Happy or different intensities from mild to intense.
1st/2nd –Happy—Joyful—Glad
3rd/4th—Happy—Delighted—Glad—Joyful—Ecstatic
5th—Happy—Delighted—Glad—Joyful—Ecstatic—Appreciated—Proud
Becoming aware and tuned into our own emotions (how they feel in our bodies—how we think, talk, respond to others when we are feeling them, and how we process in and out of them) can lead us to social, emotional, and physical wellness. 😊
Baking = Great learning!
Looking for fun at-home STEM enrichment? Try a baking project (or any cooking, really). Use cooking as a way to discuss measurement and fractions. Is a quarter of a cup of oil different than a quarter of a cup of sugar? How many quarter cups are needed for one cup? What would that same measurement be in grams?
After you've done all the measuring, then you can think about the chemistry of cooking. At what temperature does butter melt? Or water boil? You and your child can generate hundreds of questions and answers about math and science by the simple act of making cookies.
Then, once those cookies are made, there are all kinds of story problems! If everyone in the family gets an equal number of cookies, how many cookies does each person get? What about the ethical dimensions of cookie-making? Who should get the most? The person who cooks? Who cleans? Who buys the groceries? Or should everyone get an equal amount?
