The Carleton Chronicle
A weekly update from Carleton Middle School.
Greetings from Carleton!
I just want to take a moment and provide a brief update on our Assistant Principal position. As many have heard, Mr. Clark was named the Principal of Angus Elementary School in late August and has had a successful start to the school year. We want to thank Mr. Clark for his dedication to Carleton for the past several years as a teacher, mentor, coach, and administrator. He provided focused leadership during his tenure at Carleton.
When Mr. Clark began his position at Angus, Mr. Kluzak, the Athletic Director from Sterling Heights High School, came over to provide support, visibility, and assistance during a very chaotic time of the school year (the beginning)! He will return to SHHS on Monday and many of our future Stallions will have the opportunity to once again meet and visit with him during the sports season. Simply put, thank you to Mr. Kluzak for all of his help during the first few weeks of school.
Finally, Mr. Lee will be joining the team at Carleton as our new Assistant Principal. Mr. Lee is coming to us from Carter Middle School and provides an energy, excitement, and enthusiasm for his new role. Please look for a welcome note from Mr. Lee in the next edition of the Carleton Chronicle.
Please read the remaining portions of the Chronicle as there is a Booster Club update along with other important information. Please consider donating to our Carleton Shuffle as this is our major fundraiser for the school year. If every family donates $10, we will be done with our fundraising efforts by mid-October.
Parent Portal should be open and active by September 24th. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Lastly, thank you for your patience in the parking lot. The two things that help our traffic flow are pulling all the way forward in the drop-off lane (door 12 is the best drop off) and not cutting through the parking spaces as this is very dangerous.

Booster Update
We are happy to say we had a fabulous first meeting this past Wednesday. For those who couldn't make it, here are some things that were covered:
- The Booster Club will now take over selling concessions at the home sports games at Carleton. Volunteers will be needed. If interested please email boosterclubcarleton@gmail.com. A Sign-Up Genius will be sent out shortly.
- Carleton Shuffle was discussed in great detail. The event will take place on Thursday, October 4th in the morning. Donation forms are located in the main office.
We hope for this to be our only fundraiser for the year. So please consider a donation. No amount is too small! The Booster Club contributes over $7,000 to the school throughout the school year. This includes the 8th grade farewell event. So eighth grade parents, please consider a donation, even though this is your last year with us.
- Dine to Donate nights will be announced soon. Please consider supporting these vendors who give back to their local communities and schools.
- Extravaganza dates coming soon. Volunteers will be needed after school to help.
- The Booster Club is happy to be paying for supplemental learning materials which will benefit kids of all three grade levels for Math and Social Studies. These will be in the form of a Scholastic magazine to be shared among the classrooms. New and current materials will be shipped each month.
- The Booster Club will again be sponsoring 10 band scholarships for private lessons. See Mrs. Lantto for more information on how to obtain one of these scholarships.
- We had a brief budget review. A deeper dive will take place after our fundraiser.
- We now have a new volunteer to update our website. (Thank you Rose)
- We have a new Box Tops Coordinator. (Thank you Jim). Please send your box tops in with your students. There is a drop box in the main hallway outside the main office.
- Mr. Kausch shared some current happenings for the school year, as well as offered his appreciation for our back to school teacher breakfast.
- And lastly, we will add, that we have several new excited volunteers for the year ahead which makes us happy and excited! Our next meeting is October 16th. All parents/caregivers are welcome to come. There is no obligation to volunteer for anything, but all are welcome to come and hear what is going on. Also, any and all new ideas are welcome and there is time allotted for parent questions and concerns. Hope to see you there!

Have a small business?
We are currently looking for sponsors for our fundraiser this fall. This contribution is a tax deduction for your business, and a great help to our school. For $100 you will get your logo on our t-shirts, advertisement on Facebook, our School Newsletter, Twitter, and our Website. If you or someone you know would like to be a sponsor, please contact the Booster Club! This donation can be counted as your family's contribution to the event, which would make your student eligible for all the rewards of the Carleton Shuffle! Flyers for the Shuffle are located in the main office if you don't currently have one.

Carleton Shirts and 8th Grade Shirt Orders
Don't miss out! Please submit your orders for shirts by Monday, September 24. Order forms are located in the main office if you don't already have one.
You can also add your students name to the back of the shirts. Students attending gym class this school year will need a shirt with their name on the back. They could wear these for gym as well as an everyday shirt. For the 8th graders, profit from these shirts will help pay for our end of the year event. They make a nice keepsake, and will be fun to wear to show off being 8th graders of the school this year. At some point during the year, we will take an 8th grade class picture, so it would be nice to see as many of these shirts then as well.
