Week 25 - 2/28/2020
Week 25 - Happy Leap Year!
This week saw the conclusion of our school-wide effort to raise money for Cancer research through the charity Pennies for Patients. As a school, MPMS raised $2430 in the month of February, with two of our homerooms (Ms. Kanouff and Ms. Nahser's) raiding over $500! In terms of fundraising, six of our homerooms will be recognized with pennants from Pennies for Patients. This student led initiative was organized by NJHS, raising money for a great cause. Outstanding work MPMS!
Our homerooms who will be awarded pennants for fundraising:
Ms. Jernigan – Bronze
Ms. Scholetzky – Bronze
Ms. Bacon – Silver
Ms. Sottilaro – Silver
Ms. Nahser – Gold
Ms. Kanouff – Gold
Thursday was our annual Multicultural Night, highlighted by performances of all kinds, poster presentations throughout the commons, and a feast for the entire community of food from all parts of the world. One of our annual highlights, it was an entertaining (and delicious) evening for all!
Finally, next week is our spring ALICE drill. On Wednesday, students will be engaging in a "slow motion barricade" drill, where teachers will direct students on how to use furniture to block classroom doors in the event of a threat in the school. As part of our training for all staff and students, we will be discussing how to be safe in the event of an emergency, just as students have been discussing as part of MPCS ongoing efforts to ensure all students are safe at school every day in every Manassas Park School. If you have any questions, please contact the school and we can provide additional details about the drill.

Reminder - School Starts at 7:25!
Especially when it rains or is extremely cold, we see an increase in the number of parents driving. This creates a longer than normal backup on Euclid Ave, which may lead to tardiness to school. As a reminder, 3 tardies to school in the same quarter results in an after school detention.
Please continue to use the same arrival procedures in all weather events to keep things moving smoothly, and leave a little early on rainy/cold mornings just in case there are more parents driving than normal.
Thank you!
The 2020 Census is coming to MP! Check out below to see what you need to know!
Reminder for Walkers/Bike Riders In the Morning!
Crossing Guards are an integral part of the team that gets your children to school safely each day. Please note that crossing guards are at their posts beginning at 6:30 am each school morning. As the mornings are dark and many motorists utilize the Bloom Quarry intersection, please help ensure your children are not crossing intersections before crossing guards are in place. Crossing Guards are prohibited from directing traffic, but their presence will assist in safe road crossing for all pedestrians.
