New Year, New Tips!
Making sure our students know how to use the abundance of information that is literally at their fingertips is important. They need to be able to evaluate and sift through information from a variety of sources. And, they should be able to decide what they can use when creating new media of their own. From Google Apps tips to presentation tools to simple shortcuts, this monthly newsletter covers it all. Everything will also be posted on the Library News page.
Download Google Backup and Sync
Want the steps? Here you go:
- Visit the Google Drive download page on a home computer. At work? Search for the "Software Center" under the start menu.
- Click to download on the download page (home) or in the Software Center (work). (You can download on a mobile device as well, which opens up even more kinds of awesome.)
- After installing, enjoy! If you want to add Drive to your favorites, follow these steps.
If you need any program on your computer, check the Software Center under the start menu to see if it's there. If you don't see what you need, let Roddy or me know. We can check to see if it's approved to be added to the Software Center or submit it for approval.
Outside users can now upload files to Google Forms!
Interested in past tips?
All of the past tips can be found here if interested, but here are a few of my favorites that may be helpful at the start of this new year:
- Check out Explora, one of our EBSCO databases that supports mobile searching and features text to speech capabilities.
- Want PowerPoint alternatives? Take a look at Haiku Deck.
- Share entire folders in Google Docs instead of individual documents...it's so much easier! Any new documents in that folder automatically have the same sharing capabilities as the folder.
- Create quick video tutorials with Screencastify.
- Model being a good "digital citizen" by using public domain photos on Pixabay or Pexels.
