About the Book
Out of my Mind is a novel by Sharon M. Draper. Eleven year old Melody Brooks has a photographic memory. She is even the smartest girl in her class, but no one knows that. She has never spoken a single word. Melody has cerebral palsy. She’s stuck in the same class every day, listening to the alphabet. One day, Melody discovers something that will finally give her a voice, but not everyone around her is ready to hear it. She is able to get an the Whiz Kids team, a quiz team. Once her team makes it to the finals, the book gives you a surprise you will never expect. I think that the theme to the book was it's what's on the inside that counts The main characters are Melody, her mom and dad, and her little sister Penny. Mrs. V is always there for her, and so is her helper, Catherine. The main settings are Melody's house, school, and Mrs. V's house. When I read Out of my Mind, I loved it. I really like the authors style of writing and how she explained everything so perfect. She made me feel like i was in the room with Melody, experiencing everything with her. The book made me feel happy for her, sad, and laugh at all the right times. I really liked this book.
