Camp Jenny Backpack Drive

Camp Jenny, located at Camp Coleman, provides a summer camp experience for children who are less-fortunate and unable to afford camp. This unique experience takes place during Memorial Day weekend. Camp Jenny relies on fundraising efforts and donations to make this mitzvah possible. As part of their Tzedakah project, the 5th grade will be collecting new or gently used backpacks to donate to the campers of Camp Jenny.

Collection cans will be located in the lower school carpool, gym, and front lobby from Monday, April 4th until Friday, April 15th.

What Did We Learn This Week?

Language Arts

Our spelling rule this week was the 1-1-1 doubling rule which states that in a 1-syllable word, with 1 short vowel that ends in 1 consonant, you double that final consonant before adding the suffix –ed or –ing. In grammar we reviewed action and linking verbs took our next assessment. We also read a story called Too Many Tamales and practiced retelling the story using a story chain. In vocabulary, we began unit 13. The test will be next Friday, April 15th. We have started writing our rough drafts about our future life! We will begin editing next week and writing our final draft. Please make sure you turn in the pictures for your child's autobiography! We will not have a spelling test next week due to the testing.

This week in math we learned about customary and metric systems of measuring length. We had fun measuring with rulers and determining what would be the best unit of measurement for different things. The highlight of our week was munchy math when we got to measure the length of sour punch straws...and of course eat them after!

We are super educated about Habitats! We learned 6 of them these past couple weeks- desert, polar, grasslands, wetlands, rain forest, and ocean. We had so much fun exploring through the website and Brainpop Jr. We are also in the process of making fun habitat mobiles!

Dear 2nd grade parents,
