Letter from Principal Nelson
Cougar Nation-
The word is out; positive behavior leads to positive rewards. We are 6 weeks into the best year of your student’s academic career and are far better off as a school due to their exceptional attitude and behavior. We strive for excellence in all aspects of the day in regards to how our students handle themselves, and thankfully we are not at all disappointed. We want them to be polite, proactive, and positive. When we see this, we make sure to celebrate it and thank them. Oftentimes when a teacher sees a student going above and beyond, h/she will fill out a “Positive Behavior Ticket” and place it in our PBS Box. On Friday's we then draw students’ names and deliver gift bags to them during lunch and PRIDE. We love going class to class honoring their efforts whilst dancing and singing “Celebration” by Kool and the Gang. The kids may think it a tad awkward (one even said she would give the bag back if I quit dancing) but that’s okay; we merely want others to know how proud we are of their achievement.
If you have any trinkets, swag, candies, or even coupons you;d like to donate to the cause, contact our PBS Guru Mr. Sammon at david.sammon@austinisd.org
Like the music and games we play at lunch, as well as Freecess where we take them outside to run amuck, these rewards and amazing activities are not given to them; they are earned. We give them very little, but we reward them handsomely.
Thanks to all of our parent/guardians who showed up for our first 6th grade learning walk of the year. We had close to 40 in attendance and got to see some pretty amazing stuff. We will be having another one in October geared for 7th and 8th grade, so stay tuned for more details.
