Principal's Report - Dr. Philip Reavis
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Thank you to students who work so hard and show a love of learning. Thank you to parents for the daily support from home and countless hours of volunteering at the school. Thank you to faculty and staff who show such energy and passion for seeing students improve. As principal at Oakview, it is a pleasure to observe the partnership that exists between the school, home, and community as we carry out our mission! Thank you ALL!
This edition of the ACORN brings important information about current and upcoming events. Please read on. If I don’t see you prior to the break, Happy Thanksgiving!
PTA President's Report - Jean Scott
This Thanksgiving, I will remember to give thanks for the many wonderful Oakview families that have donated supplies and baked cakes and given their valuable time to make our fall festival a success. Thanks go out especially to Hootenanny Co-Chairs Blair Vana, Andrea Loar and Dawn Ridge.
I'm also grateful for Book Fair Co-Chairs Sandi Schofield, Stephanie Schatteman, and Kelly Long.
Now we can all catch our breath and look forward to other upcoming events, like the Jingle Bell Drop and Elf Shelf Holiday House.
And don't forget this week's events for America Recycles Week!
Oakview directories are available for sale in the school store. They are $5.00 each.
America Recycles Week, November 10 - 14
The Environmental Committee will collect recycling items every morning, November 10-14, at the main and kindergarten entrances. Room coordinators will contact parents soon with volunteer opportunities during this week. Also, parents will receive information through each child's classroom regarding all the items that can be recycled.
*Recycle Your Gently Used Shoes*
For one week only, November 10-14, Oakview will collect pairs of shoes to help those in need around the world. Collection containers will be available outside the main, kindergarten, and bus entrances. All shoes, new and used, are accepted as long as they have no rips or tears. All shoes will be given to Shoes4Water, which will then send them to Kenya, where shoes and water are difficult to find. The funds from the sale of the shoes will help the program dig wells and buy pumps and filtration equipment for the local people.
*Recycle Your Bottle Caps*
Did you know that Oakview recycles bottle caps? But beginning now through the spring, Oakview will be reusing collected bottle caps for an exciting project. The art teachers and Mrs. Demerrit are planning to create a recycled bottle cap art mural this spring along the top of the wall across from the science lab. We need to collect all sorts of colored bottle caps for this project! Bottle caps can be sent to Oakview at any time.
If you have any questions regarding America Recycles Week, or if you are interested in joining the Environmental Committee, please contact Holly Mannino at fhmannino@bellsouth.net.
