WHAT WE'RE LEARNING THIS WEEK

State ELA Assessment

We were scheduled to take the English Language Arts State Assessment on Wednesday and Thursday. Due to issues with the testing provider, the assessments are currently suspended.

Reading

This week we continue to, and hope to, complete The Sign of the Beaver. We will also integrate reading and social studies as we read articles on the Boston Tea Party and the Intolerable Acts.

New vocabulary packets are coming home today. These are due next Friday.

Writing

This week we continue to work on narratives and analyzing sentences. We will also finish up filming our student created menu commercials.

Social Studies/Science

This week students will participate in a taxation without representation simulation and a simulation on the Sons of Liberty. We will also read about the Boston Tea Party and Intolerable Acts.

Math

We didn't have time to get to Volume City last week so we will do that this week. In addition, we will begin the Stock Market Game simulation. Finally, we will begin work on converting measurements.

Most days students will be able to finish their math practice in class. However, at home they could work on math facts, either through flashcards or www.xtramath.org. In addition, spend ten to fifteen minutes on www.frontrowed.com to practice our current concepts. If your child has mastered the ones for Numbers Base Ten, then move on to geometry as this is often one that interests students and one they can accomplish independently. Any time your child is requesting more math opportunities, direct them to this site. They are familiar with it.
