Dear O.C. Taylor Parents,
Click here to see the student video version of Tiger Time News.
Thank you for participating in our OCT Spring Creek Night! We raised $1200 for our school. We are beyond excited! We appreciate your dedication to our wonderful school! We are empowering our children today for a better tomorrow!
Tomorrow, Monday, May 1 the Vision Committee will be meeting from 4:30-5:30 in the Learning Commons to discuss options for an OCT school focus. We invite all parents, grandparents, staff and community members to attend and share their thoughts.
The faculty and staff of O.C. Taylor would like to invite all parents who have volunteered this year to a breakfast in your honor. We could not yield the results we do and make the progress we have without your dedication and assistance. We LOVE our volunteers and want to show you in a small way we appreciate you! Please join us in the OCT learning commons on Tuesday, May 16 between 7:30-8:00 a.m.
To those celebrating, we wish you a Happy Cinco de Mayo!
To the greatest of days,
Principal Young

OCT April Updates
A Note from Nurse Katy Faught
Dear OCT parents,
Thank you so much for all the hard work you put into your life-saving blood drive. It is so important to the community and sets a wonderful example for our children on how to give back to the community.
You are amazing! We saw 21 donors and were able to draw 17 whole blood units and 1 unit of packed red blood cells (which equals 2 units). Since each donation will impact up to 3 patients (or 6 babies) your hard work impacted over 57 lives in North Texas. That’s awesome! That is 114 babies!
Thank you! You can go online in about 4 days and check your cholesterol and blood type.
Thank you volunteer donors for helping to replenish the community blood supply.
Have a wonderful week,
Nurse Katy Faught

Registration for 2017-18 School Year
As we look ahead to the 2017-2018 school year, I wanted to share some information with you regarding registering for the upcoming year. Registration for returning students will open in early August 2017. When the date has been finalized, information will be available on the district website, social media channels, back to school tools website and in The LEADer.
If you know you will not be back next year, please let your classroom teacher know and Ms. Betty in our front office.
A Note from Our Art Teacher, Mrs. Morgan
For the month of May, we are finishing up our 3D sculptures and fiber arts unit.
- Kindergarten will be finishing up their painted paper weaving. They had fun using a variety of tools to paint paper!
- First grade will be finishing up their paper weaving house piece and use recycled materials like cardboard and scrap paper to create a background.
- Second grade will be finishing up their paper plate radial weaving. Students learned about radial symmetry to create their plate.
- Third grade will be finishing up their culture masks by painting designs and patterns. They learned why masks are an important part of cultures.
- Fourth grade will be finishing up their 3D animal or human sculpture. They had fun using newspaper, foil and tape to create their sculpture.
- Fifth grade will be finishing up their clay project. They used air-dry clay to create a sculpture of their choice.
This year, students made a portfolio to store all of their artwork. I will be passing out the remainder of the work during the month of May, be on the lookout for your child’s art portfolio!!
A Note From Our Music Teacher, Mrs. Vencil
It's hard to believe our school year is already coming to an end. Our Tigers are still working hard to learn something new in the music room every day.
Kindergarten students are learning about dynamics (piano/forte) and using dynamic changes with their voice and classroom percussion instruments to create expression in music. Kinder kids are also learning songs for their Kindergarten Graduation!
1st grade students are learning about the instrument families and how sound is made in each family. We will use what we know about the instrument families to help us understand how Sergei Prokofiev used instruments to voice the characters in the famous musical story, Peter and the Wolf.
2nd grade students have been working for weeks to prepare for Festival of Friends. We hope you will join us in the cafeteria Thursday, May 4 at 8:15 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. for this exciting multicultural program. After the program, 2nd graders will experiment with sound, vibration and sound waves.
3rd graders are wrapping up the year with a review of note value and line and space notes on the treble clef staff. We will practice reading music from the staff and play simple melodies on Orff instruments.
4th graders are earning new Recorder Karate belts every week, and I am extremely proud of their focus and perseverance. We will work until the very last second trying to earn our black belts.
5th graders have chosen some awesome songs for their end of the year program, 5th Grade Rocks! Mark your calendars for Thursday, May 18 at 8:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. because you won't want to miss this fun show!
A Note From Our P.E. Coaches, Coach Mester and Coach Mac
Thank you to our awesome PTA for purchasing the school two GaGa Pits. We are learning the rules in class and they will soon be playing in PE and at recess.
Finally, mark your calendars for our annual OC Taylor Field Day! It will be held on Thursday, May 25th.
