Florence 1 Students Works Recognized by Atlantic Institute
Two Florence 1 students, Eliza Parrott at Williams Middle and Qingyi Tan of Wilson High, are among a group of students in South Carolina who will be recognized at the Atlantic Institute's upcoming award ceremony in Columbia. The Art Institute will recognize middle and high school students who submitted original works on the theme of "Building Community: The Role of Teens." Both Parrott and Tan submitted artwork.
Parrot is being honored with an award for her original artwork depicting her interpretation of how teenagers can help in their community in terms of environmental awareness. Parrott's drawing was based on her own interpretation of the City of Florence's downtown revitalization.
Qingy Tan's artwork, The Crying Las Vegas, centers around the Las Vegas shooting in 2017.
On the day of the ceremony, the students will be notified where their artwork placed among competitors. Atlantic Institute is a non-profit organization whose goal is to promote dialogue among people and towards issues that pertain to their lives. Its mainstay is to engage in educational activities about social and cultural matters.
