Greetings from Dr. Garcia-Groves!

We are kicking off Black History Month on Wednesday, February 1st. While we strive to provide a diverse and representative school experience throughout the year, February is a unique opportunity to highlight the contributions of Black artists, writers, athletes, inventors, scientists, teachers and more. We will have a spirit week February 13th-17th as part of our celebration and a book raffle every Friday in February.

Our IB learner attribute for the month of February is balanced. We want to support scholars academically, socially, physically and emotionally.

We are excited to offer spring pictures this year. All scholars are eligible for these pictures which will be on February 15th.

If you have a scholar in 7th or 8th grade, please prioritize completing the 21st Century Scholars Application. You can find out more about the program in today's newsletter.

Friday, February 3rd will be our First Friday Dress Down Day. All of the same rules apply. Clothing still needs to be school appropriate. The cost is $1.00 and the proceeds benefit the PTSO as they seek to support CIA staff and students. Every FIRST Friday will be a dress down day for scholars.

Our CIA PTSO is meeting on Wednesday, February 1st at 6:00 pm in the library. You will enter Door 4. We have a home wrestling meet that day so there will be extra cars in the lot. You are able to park along the curb or on the east end parking lot.

This spring we will be hosting Girls on the Run for girls in grades 3, 4 and 5. We already had several girls register and have a limited number of spots remaining. Our first practice will be Tuesday, March 7th at 4:30 pm. Scholarships are also available for those who need it. Here is the link to register: https://www.girlsontherunmichiana.org/

Blessings,

Dr. Garcia-Groves

21st Century Scholars

If you have a scholar in 7th or 8th grade, now is the time to sign up for 21st Century Scholars! You can enroll your child as a 21st Century Scholar from the time they enter 7th grade to June 30th of their 8th-grade year. Use this link to enroll: https://learnmoreindiana.org/scholars/

What is the 21st Century Scholarship?

A national model for success, Indiana’s 21st Century Scholars program started in 1990. It is an early-college promise program designed to help ensure that every Hoosier student can afford the opportunity provided by a college education. Today, eligible students who maintain the Scholar Pledge to excellence in school and life receive a scholarship for up to four years of up to 100% tuition at an eligible Indiana college or university after they graduate from high school.

What does the 21st Century Scholarship cover?

At in-state, public two-year and four-year colleges, the 21st Century Scholarship covers up to 100 percent of tuition and some regularly assessed fees, such as technology, student-activity and health-services fees. The scholarship pays part of the tuition at private or independent colleges and approved for-profit specialty or proprietary schools. A list of colleges that accept the 21st Century Scholarship is available at LearnMoreIndiana.org/scholars/resources/eligible-colleges.

The scholarship does not cover the cost of books, room and board, parking fees, lab fees or any other fees that are not assessed to all students. Students are encouraged to search for scholarships to assist them in covering these additional costs.

Dress Code Reminder

I want to take a moment and remind parents that we have a dress code. Spandex shorts are not allowed. CIA shirts can be worn any day and pant colors are black, blue and khaki. Scholars should not be wearing sweatpants, pajama pants or ripped pants to school. We appreciate your help with making sure scholars adhere to the dress code. If your household is in need of uniforms, please notify the main office.

We are in need of uniform clothes for our Cougar Closet, particularly for our older scholars. If you have any clothes you would like to donate, please bring them to the main office. Thank you to everyone who made a donation. It is much appreciated!

PTSO

PTSO meets the first Wednesday of the month at 6:00 pm in the library. Please enter door 4.

We are meeting this week! 2/1/22
