Hembree Highlights
November 20, 2020
Note from Mrs. Smith
Happy Friday! This has been a great week of learning and fun around the Nest. I know that you are looking ahead to next week. This Thanksgiving will look very different for a good many of you. I wanted to take a minute to remind you that safety is our number one priority, and I want to encourage you to be safe throughout the holiday.
Fulton County Schools is encouraging students and staff to get tested for COVID prior to return to Face to Face instruction on December 2nd. This is especially true if:
- You have traveled out of state or country
- You participated in any large group gatherings over the break
- You suspect exposure to COVID-19
- You have any flu/COVID-19 like symptoms
There will be testing through CORE at North Learning Center at 450 Northridge Pkwy, Atlanta, GA 30350 on Sunday, November 29th. Please look for communication from Dr. Looney around this suggestion to prevent spread of COVID and keep our schools open for the remainder of this school year.
Some changes were announced last night at the Board Meeting. Here is a bulleted version of the changes:
- Students will be in Remote Learning on Monday, November 30th, and Tuesday, December 1st. Please see the below graphic for the high level schedule. Your child's teacher will be communicating specifics as well.
- Student election of instructional model is open now through December 11th. If a parent does not make any changes, the child will default to stay in the same instructional model that they are currently in. Parents will need to make a commitment for the 9 week grading period. This is a change from the first semester. CLICK HERE to make your selection.
Please be safe and know that I am excited to know that we will be back in the building after Thanksgiving to continue to provide the high level instruction that Hembree Springs is known for!
We will welcome students back into our building on Wednesday, December 2nd.
Stay Strong! Stay Positive! Stay Well!
Sincerely,
AJ Smith

Take Care of Your Device
FCS provided devices to students in grades 2-12 to support student learning. Students are expected to use the devices responsibly, safely, and respectfully. Moving forward, students will be held accountable for any loss or damages to the device and/or accessories provided by Fulton County Schools. Devices will be assessed for:
· Cracked Screens
· Damaged Ports
· Damaged Headphone Jacks
· Damaged Charger
· Damage/graffiti/dents/severe scratches
· Loss or theft
Lost or stolen devices: $250
Damaged: $100
Lost or damaged accessories: $30 for each accessory
If you withdraw from school, please make sure you return your child’s device before leaving. Even if you remain within Fulton County, please return the device to us. You will receive a new device from your new Fulton County School. Please read the tips below and watch the video to see different ways to take care of your device.
When carrying your device
· Hold it in front of your body
· Use two hands
· Hold it by the base, not by the screen
· Walk
Food and Drink
· Keep food and drink away from your device to prevent damages
Protect your Device Charger
· Do not unplug the charger by pulling or yanking the cord
· Unplug directly from the outlet by pulling the plug straight out
· Do not wrap the cord too tight when putting it away
When working on your device, you should
· Keep your computer on a flat, solid surface (repeated use on carpet, bed, or other fabric surface can result in overheating)
· Watch how you place your cords. You could trip and hurt yourself and accidently pull your device off the table and break it.
· Carefully insert cords and cables into the device to prevent damage
· Be gentle with the keyboard, trackpad, and screen
· Never take out your frustration on the computer
When your device is not in use
· Do not place books or other heavy objects on top of your laptop
· Place it somewhere it will not get stepped on
· Do not place things between the screen and the keyboard when you close the lid
Follow Proper Battery Care
· Try not to let your battery fully drain
· Recharge as soon as your device reaches around 40%
· Stop charging when you hit full charge at 100%
· You can check the percentage of battery by clicking the ^ symbol on the bottom right-hand corner of the tool bar and hovering over the battery icon
Leave as is
· Please do not remove Fulton County Asset Tags or stickers containing the barcode
· Do not decorate the outside of your device with stickers or other materials
Shutting down properly
· Be sure to close all your browser windows, apps, and/or documents
· Click the windows icon on the bottom left, select power, select shut down
· Wait for your screen to go black and then close the screen
· Simply closing the screen without the shutdown process prevents your computer from shutting down properly
Keeping your device clean
· Clean the screen of your device by using a soft, microfiber cloth
· No direct sprays or cleansers of any kind
Prevent Loss or Theft
· Never leave your device unsupervised
· Always leave it in a secure location
· Do not leave your device sitting in the car (Not only to prevent theft, but to prevent damage from extreme temperatures)
