Sherman ISD announces new campus principals
Sherman ISD is excited to announce the appointment of two elementary principals and a secondary associate principal for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year. All three individuals are experienced campus leaders, dedicated educators, and proud Sherman High School graduates.
Leda Roelke is moving from Piner Middle School Assistant Principal to Crutchfield Elementary as its new principal; Nancy Jung, a current Allen ISD Assistant Principal, will be the new Jefferson Elementary Principal; and Mike Mitchusson will be the Associate Principal of Sherman High School after serving in an interim role.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Hicks believes that each of the former Bearcats will provide excellent leadership that will benefit the students of Sherman ISD.
"We're excited for these educators to serve our students in their new campus leadership roles," Hicks said. "Mrs. Roelke has served Sherman ISD exceptionally well, and her expertise in reading instruction and her devotion to our community will enhance Crutchfield and Sherman ISD. Mrs. Jung is a strong instructional leader who is compassionate, encouraging, and achievement focused. I am so excited that she is returning to Sherman to lead Jefferson Elementary. Mr. Mitchusson's instructional expertise, breadth of educational experience and his commitment to student success make him a great addition to the Sherman High School team."
Leda Roelke
Crutchfield Elementary Principal
Leda Roelke has worked in Sherman ISD for the past 16 years. She taught first through fourth grade at Fairview Elementary and served the campus as assistant principal for five years. For the past two years, Roelke has served as assistant principal of Piner Middle school and is looking forward to transitioning back to elementary to ensure students are prepared for secondary school.
“My time at the middle school has helped me grow professionally and has allowed me to clearly understand how vital a strong elementary base is for our students to succeed in secondary school,” Roelke said. “I am extremely excited to get back to my elementary roots and lead the Crutchfield team. Together, we will continue to nurture and grow students to become capable, responsible young citizens. I am truly honored and prepared to take on the challenges of this next phase of my career.”
Nancy Jung
Jefferson Elementary Principal
Jung says she is excited for the opportunity to return back to Sherman, TX.
"I am looking forward to joining the faculty of Jefferson Elementary and continuing the rich legacy of education on the campus, and being a Bearcat once again," she said.
Mike Mitchusson
Mike Mitchusson has more than 40 years of experience in working in Texas public schools. He taught Latin in Amarillo ISD and Latin and history in Sherman ISD where he was honored as “Teacher of the Year” in both districts. He has served as an assistant principal at Sherman High School, principal at Van Alstyne High School, principal at Piner Middle School, and Executive Director of Human Resources for Sherman ISD.
Mitchusson is happy to return to Sherman High School.
“I enjoy working in Sherman ISD and I am looking forward to working with Ms. Politi and the staff at Sherman High School,” Mitchusson expressed. “It’s an exciting time for SHS and I’m ready to serve our students and community.”

Sherman ISD Spring Enrollment of Benefits
This spring, there will be meetings held at each campus to discuss the insurance products. This will include voluntary life insurance, vision, dental, heart, cancer, and other supplemental benefits. Last year, we added a Health Saving Account (HSA) option for employees. An HSA is similar to a flexible spending account; however, one big difference is that you do not have to spend the money in one calendar year and you can even take your account with you if you resign or retire and use it at a later date.
The meeting dates and dates of when the representatives will be at the campus are listed below. If you have any additional questions, please contact Human Resources Executive Director Jill O'Neal.
