Coming Next Week...
Many of our learners are in various phases of the writing process. Our learners have had opinion pieces scaffolded for them. We have used graphic organizers to plan and structure our writing. In the coming weeks learners will have more opportunity to continue these skill independently.
Thank you for supporting us, and we appreciate what you continue to do at home to help us enhance your child’s writing skills!
The Writing Process
We are working through the steps of the writing process. The writing process works for any type of writing: opinion, explanatory, informative, ANYTHING!
If your child is working on writing at home, remind them of the steps:

Community 3 will continue exploring the point of view of characters. We have been reading various stories and examining the story from different perspectives. Learners will be determining the different points of view (first, second, third person) and exploring how a character's feeling, motivations, and traits can be different based on that character's perspective. In time, learners will distinguish their own point of view from the point of view of the narrator or the characters.
This week we will be working on equivalent fractions. In the language of math, there are
lots of ways to express the same number, especially when it comes to fractions.
Identifying and generating equivalent fractions is key to the conceptual development of
learners' understanding of fractions. The best way to think about equivalent fractions is
that they are fractions that have the same overall value. Essential vocabulary for this standard includes: equivalent fraction, unit fraction, greater than, and less than.
Note: Grade 3 expectations in this domain are limited to fractions with denominators 2,
3, 4, 6, and 8.
Here are some resources to help your leaner practice:
We are finishing up our addition to celebrating Black History month by creating a wall of inspirational or motivational quotes. The learners have chosen a quote, dissected the quote and found its meaning. Our learners are currently choosing different mediums to place their quote on the wall.
Next week we will begin our study of weather. Our learners will be starting this project by researching different natural disasters and their impacts on the communities. The learners will be collaborating with Community 4 to evaluate the design structures based on their ability to withstand natural disasters.
