Hawk Happenings

January 4-8, 2021

Here's what's happening at Spring Lake...

Happy New Year! Welcome back to the 2021 portion of our school year. We hope that you had a relaxing holiday season and spent quality time with your family! I know that my family enjoyed hanging out at home, playing games, reading and eating way too many sweets. We also enjoyed outdoor walks and even made it to the slopes to ski and snowboard.

Like many of you, my extended family and several close friends have been negatively affected by covid over the past month. We understand what a difficult time this has been for so many and want to help and support each Spring Lake family. We continue to ask parents to keep their child at home if they are experiencing any symptoms of illness including cough, congestion, fever, headache, body aches, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of taste/smell, etc. Please contact the school if anyone in your household has tested positive. We are happy to work with you to provide virtual learning opportunities for students on quarantine who are healthy and able to participate.

As we head in to term 3, we will continue to follow our safety procedures and guidelines consistently. Our schedule will remain the same and we will be reviewing all of our protocols with students to keep them safe (proper wearing of masks, hand washing/sanitizing, distancing, etc.). We are all looking forward to the day when cases will begin to fall and we can get a reprieve from the virus, but that time isn't now. It is more important than ever that we remain diligent about safety. Please let us know if we can provide additional support for your family at this time.

Remote Learning Option for Term 3

This is the final week to make any changes to your learning option for Term 3.

If your child has been attending in person and you would like to continue this option, you don't need to do anything.

However, if your child has been attending in person and you would like to switch to remote learning for term 3, you have until tomorrow, January 5th, to make the change. You will need to CLICK HERE TO FILL OUT THE REMOTE LEARNING OPTION SURVEY. Your child will then be assigned to a remote learning teacher and you will be contacted early next week with more details. The first day of Term 3 begins on Tuesday, January 19th.

Remember that parents are asked to stick with their choice for the entire term once it is made. Those wishing to return will need to wait until Term 4 which begins on Monday, March 29th.

Parent Teacher Conferences will be held virtually next week on Thursday, January 14th from 3:00 - 8:30 PM. Conferences will primarily be held either via zoom or a phone call if that is more convenient. If you have a need to meet with your child's teacher in person, please make arrangements with them directly. In-person conferences will be socially distanced, limited to a maximum of 15 minutes, masks will be required, and we ask that only parents attend the conference.

Cold Weather Guidelines

We were lucky to have mild weather through December, but now that it has grown cold and snowy, we want to remind parents to ensure that students are dressed for the weather each day. Remember to label your child's coat and personal items with his or her name. We will monitor the temperature and air quality every day. See the following Cold Weather Procedures:
