Six Ways to Help Middle Schoolers Create a Kind, Trusting Culture
This piece from the February, 2020 AMLE Magazine includes several of the activities Phyllis Fagell describes in her book, Middle School Matters. I especially like this passage:
"Most tween drama stems from lack of social skills and life experience, not lack of empathy. The stereotype of the mean middle schooler may be ingrained in the culture, but it's off-base and undermines kids' ability to trust one another. Here are six ways educators can flip that negative narrative and help tweens create a positive culture."
These activities could be incorporated into advisory or class periods and enhance the culture of your school.

Certified Librarians Eligible to Apply for REALISD Summer Workshop
Several Indiana school librarians attended the "Rural Engagement to Advance Learning in STEM Digitally" workshop last year; applications are now open for this summer's sessions in Buffalo or Georgia. This four-day, all-expenses paid workshop gives participants the experience of designing, managing, and facilitating STEM activities. The designation "rural" is not explicitly defined on the website, so it would not hurt to investigate! Last year's librarians were very impressed!
