Southridge High School

August 2014

From the Desk of Mr. Murphy

Greetings from SHS,

We are very excited about the start of the new school year. The first few days have passed and things are starting to run smoothly!

On August 6, during our Teacher Day, each teacher at SHS worked in their departments and developed goals for the year. This exercise proved very beneficial and will allow the teachers to incorporate these goals in each of their classes. This goal setting will allow the students to see their progress as it pertains to the department goal. It was a great exercise and we are waiting with great anticipation to see how this improves instruction and learning in each classroom.

The administration and staff at SHS believe in open and honest communication with all parents and guardians. We believe effective communication results in a more enjoyable experience for the students and their families while they are at SHS. Please feel free to call us at any time if you have a question about anything. We may not know all answers right away but we are committed to getting you an answer in a timely manner.

GO RAIDERS!!

DUAL CREDIT OPPORTUNITIES

Southridge High School has signed articulation agreements with some nearby colleges and as a result we are able to offer a number of dual credit opportunities for our students. The opportunity to earn college credit through IVY Tech, Oakland City University, and the University of Southern Indiana is available.

IVY Tech courses – Mr. Satterfield and Mr. Wibbeler will assist the students in registering. Those classes include Automotive Technology, PLTW classes, and Welding Classes. Students will not be charged.

Oakland City University – Registration for dual credits with OCU will take place on Thursday, September 4th, in the guidance area between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. Students must have their registration completed and a check or money order payable to OCU. ($25.00 per credit hour) The teachers here at SHS have the registration forms and will let the students know the cost of their course.

In addition, there will be a spring registration for dual credits from OCU in January of 2015

University of Southern Indiana – This year registration will take place on-line. In addition, the students will need to get a form from their teacher that must be signed by the teacher and the school counselor. This form must be turned into the guidance office by Thursday, August 21.

At a later date, USI will then send the student an invoice for payment.
